About the Author

Before working at Adore Beauty my interest in beauty was sparked as a form of extreme procrastination during my undergrad when I thankfully discovered brow products and Hyaluronic Acid. Nothing was really the same after that. Now as writer at Adore Beauty I'm constantly researching beauty to give you the most informed and up to date beauty advice!

Beauty Tips:

  • Find the right primer for your skin that is simultaneously hydrating and smoothing.

  • Too much powder can cling to the skin and make it look dry and crepey, so try using a self setting foundation or a setting spray that will allow you to ditch the powder.

Step by Step Dewy Makeup Routine for Mature Skin

Step 1: The right primer for your skin

Step 1: The right primer for your skin

Start with a primer that is hydrating, smoothing and adds the right amount of luminosity to the skin. We recommend using the ultra-hydrating Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer, which adds radiance to the skin and helps your makeup grip and last. Spend some time massaging this product into the face.

Step 2: A lightweight, luminous foundation

Go in with a lightweight, self setting foundation like the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. This foundation works best when applied with a brush, lightly stippling the product across the face. Then follow up with a damp makeup sponge like the asap pure beauty blender to merge the foundation in with the skin.

Step 5: Set Your Base

Using a large fluffy brush, lighty apply MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Loose Translucent Powder to your under eyes to set your concealer in place. This powder is perfect for smoothing the skin and reducing the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. Apply to your chin and T-zone to keep your skin looking naturally matte throughout the day. Start by applying very lightly and build up as you desire. Finish setting your base by gently applying the powder to your eyelids - this will avoid eye shadow clinging to your creases.

How do I apply foundation to mature skin?

The key to applying makeup on mature skin is all in the prep, but once you’ve got that sorted, where do you go next?

After hydrating your base with skincare and a primer, it’s best to opt for a lightweight liquid foundation that reflects light. Apply a light layer, making sure to blend the product out properly. This will help to enhance your skin, hide imperfections, but won’t mask your beautiful skin and expression.

Generally, it’s best to stick to lightweight cream products that will easily merge with the skin, as they are less likely to drag, settle or cake.
