Is This Tinted Moisturiser Worth The Splurge?

Full disclosure: I will stop at nothing for a flawless, radiant, natural-looking base. Not even a $265 price tag can deter me. If you’re trying to save, I’d advise you to look away now before you become obsessed with this product like I have.

Giorgio Armani’s Crema Nuda Tinted Cream truly is in a league of its own. It’s an illuminating tinted moisturiser that hydrates and corrects with a radiant finish unlike any other. It has to be seen to be believed.

Tell Me More:

I shouldn’t be so surprised – Crema Nuda is a hybrid between Giorgio Armani’s best-selling foundations (including Luminous Silk) and his high-end Crema Nera skincare range, so it really couldn’t have turned out anything less than amazing.

Crema Nuda provides flawless sheer coverage with a natural, satin finish

– The luxurious creamy texture glides onto the skin, blending seamlessly

– The formula is both hydrating & corrective, combining skincare with makeup

– It imparts a subtle glow without highlighting dry patches or other imperfections

– It’s ultra lightweight & feels almost undetectable on the skin

Crema Nuda is especially suited to normal-dry skin types

– It leaves the skin feeling comfortable & looking luminous

– It’s available in both a gorgeous 50ml jar ($265) or 30ml pump bottle ($173)

What’s In It?

Crema Nude Tinted Cream is infused with the same hero ingredient in the Crema Nera skincare range – Reviscentalis. This regenerative ingredient is sourced from a ‘resurrection plant’ that can return to life after months or even years without water – it helps to restore a natural, youthful glow to the skin.

Crema Nuda also contains glycerin, tamarind seed and hyaluronic acid for hydration, and salicylic acid which gently exfoliates the skin, minimising blemishes and revealing a clearer complexion.

Transparent pigments in the makeup formula help to unify the skin tone, reflect light and impart a natural, radiant glow.

Is It Worth The Splurge?

I am someone who spends a lot of money on beauty as it is, and even for me this investment is a big one. But in saying that, I wouldn’t regret buying this product (and subsequently becoming obsessed with it).

I do personally prefer the pump bottle to the luxurious jar packaging, as it lends itself more to the limited space available in my makeup bag, but the jar does look super fancy displayed on your vanity.

Crema Nuda ticks every box for me – it’s light, it’s hydrating, it’s glowy and it gives me the perfect amount of coverage for my skin. This product makes your skin look healthy, and it smells beautiful too.

There’s Such Thing As A Clear Lip Liner Now. Wait…What?

Yes, I had the exact same questions as you. Isn’t the point of a lip liner to create a visible border around the lips? What on earth does a clear lip liner even do? Are you meant to apply a coloured lip liner too? The list goes on.

The good news is that I’ve found the answers to our questions, and it turns out a clear lip liner isn’t as pointless as I first thought.

What Does A Clear Lip Liner Do?

Okay, so Dr Hauschka’s Lip Line Definer is invisible, but it has a purpose – I promise. It’s perfect for those who want to prevent smudging, feathering or lipstick settling into fine lines around the lips.

– It primes and nourishes the lips as it preps for lipstick application

– The Lip Line Definer is packed full of hydrating & protective botanical ingredients

– It forms a barrier on the lips to prevent moisture loss

– The formula is soothing even on chapped or dry lips

– Defends the lips from environmental damage

– It can be layered with other lip products, including pigmented liners

What’s In It?

With benefits just like a lip balm, Dr Hauschka Lip Line Definer contains a nourishing blend of rose wax and shea butter to deeply hydrate and defend the lips from external aggressors, while locking in hydration, amongst other ingredients like jojoba seed oil, vitamin E and sunflower seed oil.

The formula is free from synthetic fragrances and parabens, dermatologically tested for sensitive skin and cruelty-free.

★★★★★ Love this – Kiki

“I am getting those “smoker” lines above my lips as I age, but I never smoked! Maybe too much pursing of my lips 🙂 This product helps reduce the settling of lip colour into those lines.”

Tried & Tested: The Best Mascara For Mono Lids

When I majored in politics at uni, I thought I’d one day write a think piece. Unfortunately, it never really made sense to me and I scored straight Cs through my three years. So, instead, let me present to you, my blink piece: A Search for my Dream Mascara.

A Little Bit Of Background:

From the first time I tried any form of makeup until (embarrassingly) not too long ago, I almost never left the house without at least four layers of mascara coated on my short, stick straight, uneven lashes.

I had yet to develop adult acne I wanted to cover up, yet to discover how much brows could shape my face to convey a little sass, and yet to figure out how to not turn myself into a panda with the never-ending pursuit of eyeliner perfection (though admittedly, I still can’t use eyeliner).

What Are We Working With?

I have almond eyes, droopy monolids, AND each of my eyes is a different size with differently lengthed lashes. My lashes are just as stubborn as the human they inhabit. As a result, this was my routine:

1. Curl the lashes three times at varying sections to create an actual curl and not accidentally squishing them into L shaped sticks extending from my eyes – I still stand by this method

2. The first layer would be a waterproof mascara promising staying power

3. Next, a layer of waterproof mascara promising volume

4. Next, a layer of waterproof mascara promising length

5. To top it off, the only non waterproof mascara promising all of the above

6. Finally, one extra coat on my smaller eye to make sure it somewhat matched my bigger eye

Sometimes, if it got too gluggy, I’d have force through a lash comb. Needless to say, while I had achieved my primary goal of having visible, eye-opening lashes, they were clumpy, spidery and an absolute pain to remove when I got home each evening.

So Beauty Editor Joanna and I sought to solve my mascara woes. I know what you’re thinking. How did I get so lucky?

What’s a good mascara in your eyes, Christine?

Glad you asked. And appreciate that lil touch of word play you added. I can see us being friends. To me, the perfect mascara offers:

– Actual maintenance of curl upon first application – nothing too weighty

– Definition, separation, length

– Nothing too cartoon-y (visible but not flashy)

– As little transfer to my oily eyelids and under eyes as possible

– As minimal lash slumping through the day as possible

We tried a few different options (about five to be exact) and one came out as the clear winner over the rest – Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof.

Give Us The Verdict:

It’s been a while since I’ve worn mascara every day, but man am I tempted to add this to my morning routine. I like to think it makes me look the way coffee makes me feel: 80% awake and 20% wild.

Here’s my expert analysis on how Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Waterproof mascara performed on my lashes:

Weight: 10/10

Definition: 10/10

Separation: 9/10

Length: 10/10

Natural: 8/10

Transfer: 6/10

Slump: 9/10

I’m Here To Tell You What A “Stretch” Concealer Is

When you Google the term “stretch concealer”, you’ll be bombarded with results for Glossier’s cult concealer of the same name. But apart from being a trademarked product, “stretchable” concealers are actually now a thing. But what does “stretchable” even mean?

Tell Me More:

A “stretchable” concealer refers to the consistency and blendability of the formula. More brands are moving into this space, creating concealers that mimic the flexibility and blendability of liquid foundation, with the camouflage power of the old classic concealer.

I see it as a move towards more natural-looking, skin-like makeup – a way to enhance your own features without heavy, cakey consistencies that settle into every line and pore. And that brings me to introduce you to Giorgio Armani’s Power Fabric Concealer.

What You Need To Know About Power Fabric:

– This concealer has a high coverage, yet lightweight consistency

– It feels thin & comfortable on the skin (as opposed to thick & heavy)

– The formula brightens the complexion, particularly under the eyes

– It provides a second skin look & feel while disguising imperfections

– Power Fabric Concealer is long-lasting with a velvet matte finish

– The formula contains time-releasing oils which prevent caking or creasing

Buy here

How To Use A Stretchable Concealer:

You know how to use a concealer, right? Great. You can use Giorgio Armani’s Power Fabric Concealer the way you know how (i.e dotting onto pimples, tapping under the eyes), but you can also use it to sheer out in larger areas in the absence of foundation.

Take a brush like elf’s Small Stipple Brush and blend a small amount of concealer over uneven areas, blotchiness or imperfections for a natural, skin-like finish. You can build up coverage where you need it, or use it to spot conceal.

It can also be used on the lids as a long-wearing base for eyeshadow or liner, and the flexible doe foot wand makes application simple.

The Reviews:

★★★★★ I love this concealer – Mikaela

“To be completely honest I love most everything from Armani. I think this is the only concealer that helps cover my under eye circles, which is saying something because I have very dark ones thanks to genetics and bad circulation. It doesn’t crease and it doesn’t move, you simply look fabulous!”

★★★★★ Exactly what I was hoping it would be! – Erica

“It is full coverage and does not crease! It doesn’t dry down too quickly so you have time to blend it out before you set it if you choose so. I’ve found that either by setting it or not I still get the flawless look I need out of a concealer. They need to expand the shade range and include more undertones but overall this was a fantastic product.”

★★★★★ My current favourite concealer – Ivan

“I’ve been reaching for this over my NARS. It has a pretty thin consistency and high coverage and it blends out in two seconds and doesn’t crease. I can’t say anything bad honestly… I’ve been using it consistently for a month and I’ll be buying it again.”

Why Is This The Most Shoplifted Lipstick?

Luckily, as an online store, shoplifting isn’t high on our list of concerns. But Australia wide, shoplifting is on the rise, costing retailers $198.4 million a year.

While it’s not entirely clear why some consumers choose to steal, I’m pretty sure I know why YSL’s Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick is the brand’s most stolen product.

I mean, this has to be the most bougie lipstick packaging on the market, right? I’m not surprised these lippies get swiped off display shelves more than any other product. According to Yves Saint Laurent, it’s that classic logo ring around the lipstick casing that people are after – and the formula itself is lustworthy too.

What You Need To Know:

– Rouge Volupte Shine’s deeply hydrating formula is made up of 65% oils

– The buildable texture is a blend between a lipstick & a balm

– Combines a boost of moisture with pigmented shine that melts into lips

– Works to protect & nourish the lips for all-day comfort

– This lipstick features YSL’s signature mango scent

– Adds a soft pop of colour & long-lasting hydration for up to 8 hours

What’s In It?

Natural pomegranate and rosemary extracts provide antioxidant protection from damaging free radicals, while candelilla resin forms a protective barrier to lock in moisture and enhance colour and shine.

Hyaluronic acid spheres deliver long-lasting hydration while softening the lips and minimising the appearance of fine lines; and mineral pigments produce the bright and vibrant shades of the range.

What’s Everyone Saying About This Lipstick?

★★★★★ Great – Peta

“Can you ever go past a YSL lippy? The packaging itself just draws me back time and time again. I’ve used this in multiple shades and I just love it. It makes lips look juicy and you can apply a wash of colour or build it up to something more dramatic. So versatile, and I feel ultra luxe every time I pull it out of my purse!”

★★★★★ Favourite lipstick – Charlotte

“This is by far my favourite lipstick and definitely a luxury one at that! I will be honest and say I first bought it for the casing as they just look so luxurious and pretty but I absolutely fell in love with the lipstick!! Lovely colour long lasting and smells gorgeous.”

★★★★★ So moisturising – Kellee

“I have tried a lot of other luxury brands, but I keep coming back to YSL. This is a perfect everyday lipstick. It is as moisturising as a lip balm, and gives just enough colour for a natural office makeup. It has a very light pleasant scent that doesn’t bother me at all. Absolutely love the formula and will buy more shades.”

Kendall Jenner’s Favourite Foundation Is Like Wearing Nothing At All

As an avid KUWTK watcher myself (judge me all you like), I can confirm that Kendall is the queen of natural-looking coverage – so I made it my mission to find out which foundation she uses. Behold, investigative journalism at its peak.

Like her sisters, I suspected she’d be a Luminous Silk kinda girl, but I was wrong. Turns out, she opts for Giorgio Armani’s Face Fabric – and she even told Allure why she loves it (phew, that made my job easier).

“I have this Armani foundation called Face Fabric. It’s in a little tube and it’s so light. You feel like you can breathe and like you don’t even have anything on. Most of the time when I’m wearing it people are like, “Are you even wearing makeup?” It’s really great.”

What You Need To Know:

Giorgio Armani’s Face Fabric Foundation has a unique, ultra-light moussey texture that creates what feels and looks like a second skin, making it the perfect foundation for those who prefer light coverage.

– This formula effortlessly (and almost undetectably) blends into the skin

– The unusual, velvety primer-like texture transforms into a soft, matte finish

– It blurs imperfections & minimises the appearance of pores

– Leaves the skin looking smooth, even-toned & naturally radiant

– It feels super comfortable & lightweight on the skin

Face Fabric is best applied with fingertips for a natural finish

– It’s most suited to normal-oily skin types & is available in 12 shades

The Reviews:

If you’re not prepared to take Kendall’s word for it, what about regular people that have used Face Fabric?

★★★★★ I’m definitely going to continue using it – Mirna

“This product evens out my skin tone and looks great whether I use it for a light no makeup look or full glam. It glides on easily and sets to a powder finish in a few minutes leaving the skin looking smooth. What impressed me most was how matte it stayed and how long it wore throughout the day without breaking up.”

★★★★★ I honestly love it – Amber

“I’m not a big liquid foundation girl (typical just use pressed powders) so I don’t like that full coverage/heavy feeling on my face. This is extremely lightweight with light coverage but it works perfectly for me. I’m not acne prone so I don’t necessarily need the coverage. It looks so smooth on the face after application and it wears well through the day for me!”

★★★★★ The best – Jillian

“This foundation is hands down THE best foundation I have ever used. I have purchased many foundations over the years and this one takes the trophy. It is lightweight without being patchy! It is SO smooth and feels wonderful on! I will repurchase it once this one is gone.”

I Really Didn’t Expect To Like This Vegan Mascara…

Nothing against vegans or anything, I’ve just tried a few natural, organic and vegan mascaras in my time that haven’t impressed me all that much.

So when Inika’s Bold Lash Mascara landed on my desk, I wasn’t expecting it to shoot to the top of my favourite mascaras list. As it turns out, it did just that.

Tell Me More:

I’ll admit, this sat on my desk for a couple of days until I overheard another team member raving about it. Upon inspecting her lashes up close, I threw it in my bag to take home and try the next day.

– It’s a vegan, cruelty-free formula that amplifies & volumises

– Gives the lashes a bold, full finish with no clumping or spidery-ness

– The richly pigmented formula comes in black & brown

– Enriched with nourishing oils & extracts to condition the lashes

– It has a buildable formula which leaves lashes defined & separated

– The large brush is ideal for volumising & coating every lash

The Result:

The thing that impressed me about this mascara was how buildable the formula is. I’ve never come across a mascara that doesn’t clump my lashes together after 2-3 coats – and it actually leaves them feeling soft not stiff.

Inika’s Bold Lash Mascara feels like it was made for my particular lashes. It lengthens, separates and coats my lashes perfectly, while also adding much-needed volume. And as for spidery lashes, they’re a thing of the past.

You Might Be Making This Priming Mistake

If you didn’t think primer was a complicated enough subject already, turns out you might’ve been applying your primer the wrong way this whole time.

See, you might’ve thought applying it with a brush was best practice (and the germophobe in me says more hygienic too), but most makeup artists will tell you otherwise. According to the experts, we’re meant to use our hands to apply our primer.

Why Should We Use Our Hands?

Here’s a little tip I learnt from Director of Artistry at L’Oreal Australia, Ross Andrewartha – when you give the skin a really good massage and work your prep products into your skin for a couple of minutes, you encourage circulation.

What happens when we encourage circulation, you ask? Well, increasing blood flow and oxygen in the skin gives us a natural glow, makes our skin look plump and awake, and can reduce puffiness – all before you’ve even put your foundation on.

The warmth of your hands also helps to bind products like moisturiser and primer with the skin. When you use a brush, some formulas just get swished around on the surface of the skin, instead of sinking in.

What If You Prefer A Brush?

There is still a place for using brushes to apply primer. Some makeup artists will use their hands to apply a moisturiser or a serum to the skin using massaging motions, and then a brush to apply the primer.

Some primer formulas (for example, silicone-based) are more suited to brush application because too much warmth and manipulation can cause them to pill.

This Is My Favourite Liquid Highlighter I’ve Used To Date

You’d think as a beauty editor that highlighter would be a staple product in my makeup routine – but believe it or not, I rarely use it. That’s not to say I haven’t tried a lot of them, I’ve just never been obsessed by highlighter like everyone else.

I’m a minimalist when it comes to my own makeup, and I rely on the dewy glow of my YSL Touche Eclat All-In-One Glow Foundation to give me natural radiance, instead of that frosted chunky shimmer you get from some highlighters.

It wasn’t until last week that I actually met a highlighter I could welcome into my makeup kit with open arms. I’m calling it: Giorgio Armani’s Neo Nude A-Highlight is my favourite, and she’s worth her price tag.

Why I Love It:

Because it actually looks natural! For someone who wears light coverage and just wants to add a touch of glow, A-Highlight allows you to do that, but it also gives you the option to build it up for more intensity.

– It’s a water-based liquid that instantly & seamlessly blends into the skin

– Gives the appearance of a healthy glow with an understated pearly finish

– The formula is sheer yet buildable & application is basically foolproof

– The velvety doe-foot applicator makes it on-the-go & travel friendly

– It’s available in two shades, a soft pink or pale champagne

But Wait, There’s More:

As many of us move into a less is more mantra for makeup, Giorgio Armani is leading the way. Not only do we have the Neo Nude A-Highlight, but this is part of the wider Neo Nude range which also features the A-Blush, A-Contour, Ecstasy Balm and Fusion Powder. It’s basically a collection of products that help you to nail the ‘no makeup’ makeup look.

The Reviews:

“My favourite of the whole Neo Nude launch is the highlighter. It’s like a liquid version of the beloved all-natural obsession RMS Living Luminizer, but, of course, not all-natural and, in my case, longer-lasting. It does, however, give that same glow that appears merely dewy when light hits it, but is otherwise no-makeup makeup.” Katie Becker, Coveteur

“The pink-champagne shade is perfectly neutral. It doesn’t lean too cool or too warm and makes your skin look very naturally glowy. It gives the effect of healthy and naturally glowing skin, like you have been working out and drinking lots of water. It just makes your skin look so beautiful and polished!” – Liz Quach, Pretty Is My Profession

“Liquid or cream highlight is my choice when it comes to my glow and I love how I can layer A-Highlight without fear of texture or dryness as with some products. My favourite shade is number 10 patted on my cheekbones and cupids bow with just my fingers to reflect the sunshine.” – Victoria Magrath, In the Frow

My Fave Makeup Artist Loves This Lipstick, So Obviously I’m Buying It

If @nikki_makeup recommends anything, you can bet I’m probably gonna buy it. My friends, if you aren’t already following her, I urge you to go and do it now – you’ll be glued to her Sunday tutorials every week.

A product she used in one of her tutorials recently was M.A.C’s new Powder Kiss Lipstick – which, I’ll be honest, I hadn’t even tried yet because I don’t usually like matte formulas.

When I got into the office on Monday, I grabbed the shade Sultriness and swiped it over my lips, expecting the usual texture of a matte formula. But boy, was I wrong – Powder Kiss is a whole new take on matte.

What Makes Powder Kiss Different?

If, like me, you aren’t a fan of the typical texture of a matte lipstick – I can assure you Powder Kiss is a matte formula you’ll be able to get on board with. It’s ultra-smooth, weightless and satiny (basically the exact opposite of every other matte I’ve tried!)

@nikki_makeup describes Powder Kiss as having an “amazing texture that’s actually completely matte but it glides on silkily and feels very moisturising”. Even her Parisian model commented on how smooth the texture is – so if that doesn’t sell you into this matte, I don’t know what will.

The Details:

– It’s a “moisture matte” which conditions & hydrates the lips

– Creates a blur of soft-focus diffused colour with zero shine

– Mimics the effect of the “blurred lip” technique (à la Katie Jane Hughes)

– Has the cushiony, lightweight feel of a balm with the payoff of a lipstick

– Leaves the lips feeling smooth & comfortable with a punch of pigment

– It’s available in 13 neutral to bold shades (Sweet, No Sugar is my fave)

Shop it here

The Reviews:

★★★★★ A moisturising matte with great payoff! – Lauren

“I purchased the shades Sweet No Sugar and Scattered Petals and am so happy with them! Don’t be fooled by the name, these powder lipsticks are super moisturising and feel so soft on your lips, almost like a balm! These lipsticks also look amazing with gloss over the top for a fuller pout or just to mix it up. So easy to apply, straight from the bullet for me and I can easily wear them without worrying about using a lip liner.”

★★★★★ Okay wow – DJ

“I ordered this for a friend, who told me to try it on as well and oh my, I loved it! I tried the shade Mull It Over and I’m definitely getting my own. This formula is amazing, and the colour is the first nude I’ve actually liked for my medium complexion. Loooove.”

★★★★★ Would highly recommend! – Neelam

“This formula caught me by surprise. I struggle with dry lips, so I am scared to use matte! However, this formula is so amazing and feels so comfortable on the lips. I am in love with the shade A Little Tamed because it is the perfect median between nude and pink.”

This Self-Setting Concealer Is Almost Invisible (In A Good Way)

Much like mascaras, everyone’s always on the hunt for their holy grail concealer, aren’t they? One that brightens dark circles (without settling into fine lines) that also covers blemishes and uneven skin tone, but it can’t look cakey either.

In a previous life, I’d have a different concealer for each of these concerns, but Make Up For Ever has come through with the goods in the form of their new Ultra HD Concealer. For your reference, their Ultra HD Foundation is one of my favourites so I’m slightly biased.

Yes, there was already an Ultra HD Concealer in existence, but they’ve reformulated and made this one longer lasting, with a higher coverage and a more natural finish (plus the packaging is so much better).

– The formula of this concealer is self-setting so there’s no need to powder or ‘bake’

– This concealer brightens & disguises dark circles with its light-reflecting formula

– Easily covers blemishes & other imperfections with an almost undectable finish

– It doesn’t crease or look cakey & provides medium to full coverage

– This concealer has a lightweight, creamy texture which blends seamlessly

– The flexible formula means it moves with the skin for a natural finish

– It’s long-wearing, hydrating and suitable for all skin types

Shop here

The trick with applying this formula under your eyes is to be minimal. As a general rule, using too much concealer under the eyes is what causes it to sit in fine lines and look cakey, so be light-handed! Less is more.

Simply dot the concealer under the eyes with the doe-foot applicator and blend it out with your fingertips instead of using a brush. The warmth of your fingertips helps to blend the product in for a natural finish.

For concealing blemishes, you can use a fluffy brush or your fingers to buff out the product. This concealer is available in 20 shades so suit very fair to deep skin tones – pick a shade that’s 1-2 shades lighter than your foundation.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on some samples of the Ultra HD Concealer before it launched at Adore HQ, so here’s what we think of the new formula:

★★★★★ My new holy grail – Elle

“You know how you don’t even realise what you’re missing until you start using it, and then it’s like HOW DID I SURVIVE WITHOUT THIS? That’s how I feel about this concealer. I turn to this concealer every. single. morning. I wear it alone, or with my Ultra HD foundation, and it instantly evens skin tone, and wears so comfortably throughout the day.”

★★★★★ Criminally underrated – Shannon

“I use the shade 11 in the MUFE Ultra HD Concealer, which is about a MAC NC05-07. It’s a spot on match for me, in fact, it’s almost too fair – which is fantastic, this NEVER HAPPENS. This builds up well, and blends out like a dream. There’s so much product in this little tube that you’ll never run out even if you’re using it all over – and I do indeed recommend doing this!”

★★★★★ Go-to! – Tamara

“Having dry and very fair skin means concealer has ALWAYS been a struggle for me. If I manage to find one that matches my skin tone – it always picks up on dry patches and sits weirdly on my skin. FINALLY a concealer that I can rely on. This product blends beautifully into the skin, and I mean smooth as silk! I love that it brightens my under eye area and seamlessly conceals blemishes without looking like it’s even there at all!

The Powder Version Of Your Favourite Liquid Highlighter Is Here

Let me tell you, this product was damn hard to get my hands on. If you’re already an ICONIC London fan, you’re probably like ‘girl, this launched months ago’ – I know. But I had to make sure when I published this article that it didn’t sell out too quickly.

So here we are, we’re loaded up on ICONIC London’s Luminous Powder and I’m here to tell you exactly why you’ll want to add this bad boy to your collection.

Tell Me More:

The extravagance of this highlighter does not surprise me. ICONIC London are not only experts in highlighting, but they sure know how to nail glamorous packaging too. Enter: Luminous Powder Palette.

– It’s a golden finishing powder that acts as a luminous veil over the skin

– Suitable for face and body, it delivers the most glowing finish you’ve ever seen

– Contains 3 shades which can be used individually or swirled together

– Has a highly pigmented metallic formula which creates a soft focus effect

– Comes in an extra large slim mirrored compact

How To Use:

If you thought this was just a highlighter, you’re wrong. Because this palette contains 3 different shades, you can use them all individually (or use the Pro Puff brush to apply all over shoulders and decolletage).

Use the lightest shade to brighten the inner corners of the eyes, and to highlight the cupid’s bow. The medium champagne shade looks beautiful on the cheekbones, brow bones and down the centre of the nose.

The deepest shade of the Luminous Powder can be used as a bronzey eyeshadow, as a highlighting powder on deeper skin tones or to warm up fairer complexions.

The Reviews:

★★★★★ Obsessed! – Patricia

“The highlighter is soooo good! I mean I have seriously never used anything like it. The colours are dynamic and so pigmented that you can see the glow from across the room. It blends into my skin seamlessly so no one has to know I have highlighter on, they just think my skin is naturally glowing.”

  ★★★★★ Luminous glow – Clarissa

“This gives a beautiful glow, not a cheap looking glitter effect and not a horrible orange tone – it really is golden. I keep catching a look at myself and seeing a lovely golden glow, I love it. Nothing from Iconic has disappointed me so far.”

★★★★★ Shining! – Sabrina

“Just when I thought I couldn’t get any more obsessed with makeup, my Luminous Powder comes and… IT’S FLAWLESS DARLING. Gives me such a nice Greek goddess look and goes perfectly with the Prep Set Glow spray for extra finish.”

Is Coloured Mascara Too Much… Or Just Enough?

If you’ve never actually seen someone pull off a blue mascara, I have no doubt that you probably think it’s a terrible idea. So did I, until I saw makeup artist Shev Kelly wearing the sh*t out of it one day.

I’d never had any desire to experiment with coloured mascara before, but I was gobsmacked by how cool it looked on her, which made me think blue mascara may not be as outrageous as we once suspsected.

A post shared by Shev Kelly (@shevkellymua) on

If You Dare…

If you’re willing to take a chance on me, and on coloured mascara, I should introduce you to YSL’s Vinyl Couture Mascara – available in burgundy, green, blue and pink.

– These high-impact coloured mascaras also add volume, definition & curl

– They coat the lashes from root to tip with a high-shine vinyl formula

– The base of the formula suspends high levels of pigment for intense colour

– It’s infused with conditioning ingredients like argan & sweet almond oils

– The custom wand allows each lash to be gripped & generously coated

How To Nail It:

I’m not an expert on coloured mascara, so I referred back to someone who is. I asked makeup artist Shev Kelly (who originally got me hooked on the idea of bringing back the blue), to tell us her top tips for nailing coloured mascara.

Tip 1: For makeup that really pops, pair your blue mascara with a blue-based red lipstick, plus fresh, dewy skin and nothing else on the lids. If you’re a newbie, you can just stick to the mascara and add the lip later once you’re confident.

Tip 2: If you’re really daring, you can intensify your blue mascara by adding a matching blue liquid liner to the upper lash line too.

Tip 3: Avoid the 80’s look by ditching the light, frosty eyeshadows and sticking to matte, neutral tones like warm browns and bronzes (or even better, bare lids with a little gloss).

Who Else Has Tried It?

★★★★★ Great – Yoshie

“A lot of product comes out onto the brush making it perfect to do the last coating or create a very intense effect. I own the blue mascara and I love putting it just on my bottom lashes, creates a lovely pop of colour and I’ve received so many compliments on it!”

★★★★★ Bold colour – Rose

“I have this mascara in brown, black and blue and the blue is by far my favourite. Great colour payoff, coating the lashes nicely without clumping. The brown is also a very nice dark brown for an everyday look.”

★★★★★ Fun – Lily

“Bought the pink colour for a party, and was pleasantly surprised! It was a good quality mascara as it plumped and elongated my lashes and stayed on for the whole night. Got heaps of compliments on the vibrant colour!!”

I Went On Tinder To Find Out If Guys Really Prefer “No Makeup”

I started this social experiment with good intentions. A small part of me thought I might just get my fairytale ending. No, not that fairytale ending.

The fairytale would be that the men of Tinder would validate my theory that, despite the Instagram-filter-Facetune-era we live in, guys actually prefer no makeup.

The Plan:

The plan was that I’d spend the first week on Tinder with a profile picture with no makeup, no filter and no Facetune. I would be flooded with complimentary messages and my calendar would be full for weeks with romantic dinner dates.

After seven days, I would swap in a profile picture that would make the Kardashians’ proud, and women around the world would breathe a collective sigh of relief when I got significantly fewer matches (or just a couple of “DTF?” messages).

My real dating profile, which is actually on Bumble, sits somewhere in between. I don’t wear a lot of makeup (definitely no false lashes or overlined lips like my faux Tinder profile), but I don’t leave the house without foundation, bronzer and a little blush. I like to enhance my natural features, not disguise or distort them.

So, What Happened?

Single ladies, I wish I had better news for you! During my short stint on Tinder, I saw no discernible difference between the two profile pictures.

I got more than a handful of matches, had a few forgettable chats (that went absolutely nowhere) and zero plans were made to meet face-to-face. If you’re not familiar with typical Tinder talk, it goes something like this:

Monday: “How was your weekend?”

Wednesday: “Great, how was yours?”

Friday: “Busy, looking forward to the weekend?”

There were no “DTF?” messages, just one “I think I fancy you, Hannah”…

I’m sure some of you have more luck on the dating apps than me – I have a friend who is the master of flirty Bumble banter and seems to be on a date with a new guy every second night. How exhausting! I personally find it really hard to sacrifice a night of Uber Eats and Netflix for a stranger that I most likely will have no chemistry with, but that’s a WHOLE other story and an article for another time…

The Moral Of This Story:

When I started this experiment, I genuinely wanted to find out what men preferred. By the end, I realised it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that at the age of 30, I finally feel comfortable in my own skin, completely makeup and filter-free.

But let’s get real: six months ago, when my skin was at its worst (see below) – hormonal breakouts, enlarged pores, blackheads, dull, dehydrated and, as a well-meaning family member once described it, “rough” – I would never have posted a photo of my bare skin on Tinder, let alone ventured to the supermarket without concealer. Even though my ex lives miles away, you just never know who you’ll bump into.

I wish I could say that I still feel confident when my chin is covered in spots but that would be a flat-out lie. Confidence comes in all shapes and sizes. Some people feel most confident in their favourite red lippy. Others feel their best with just a glowing faux tan.

I’ve made a commitment to my skin over the past six months. As a result, I’ve not only been gallivanting around the supermarket sans makeup; I’ve even been on real-life date with a real-life man wearing just tinted moisturiser!

How Did I Find My Confidence?

The short answer is, I started working in beauty and suddenly put a huge focus on taking care of my skin (and had access to a huge range of products to do so).

I slowly introduced retinol – and boy did my skin get worse before it got better! I started with Murad Resurgence Retinol Youth Renewal Serum because it’s a milder formulation.

I use the Lonvitalite Derma Roller once a week with a hydrating serum, like Medik8 Hydr8 B5plus Alpha-H’s Beauty Sleep Power Peel twice a week. This stuff is like a pot of gold! I literally wake up with glowing, plumped skin. Also, I swapped to Eco Tan Face Tan Water for a natural glow that doesn’t clog my pores.

And lastly, I get anti-wrinkle injections on my forehead and around my eyes and just before my 30th birthday, I got filler under my eyes. There, I said it! And I’m not ashamed to say, I’m super happy with the results. Despite what you see on Instagram, you can achieve a natural result.

I Bought This Brush Set For Under $30. This Is My Verdict

Usually I’m a big spender when it comes to skincare and makeup (I don’t even want to look at my staff account because I’m scared to know how much I’ve spent in 3 years).

So for me to buy a 10-piece brush set for 25 bucks is a little out of the ordinary. I intended for this brush set to be my “spare” for when I did other people’s makeup – but somehow, they’ve become my favourite brushes.

What Do I Love About This Set?

Designer Brands Day Dreamer 10 Piece Pro Brush Set literally has everything a makeup beginner needs. Made from soft synthetic fibres, these brushes allow you to work with powder, cream and liquid formulas.

They’re easy to wash (I haven’t had any of them shed), they come in a little roll-up brush case, and they’re all labelled on the handle so if you’re a newbie, that comes in handy if you don’t know which brush to use for what.

The selection of brushes also impressed me – multiple brushes for eyes (blending is important!) and the inclusion of a buffing brush as opposed to a flat foundation brush. I can’t fault this set to be honest.

What’s In The Set?

Ultimate Brow Brush: This dual-ended brush has a spoolie on one end, and an angled brush on the other – ideal for applying brow gels and powders. I personally use it to smudge out pencil liner.

Deluxe Crease Brush: Allows you to create definition in the crease of the eye, plus it’s useful for blending or applying shadow to the lower lash line.

Foundation/Buffing Brush: This flat-topped buffing brush makes foundation application a breeze, not to mention it leaves a flawless finish.

Tapered Powder Brush: With its fluffy, dome-shaped bristles, this brush seamlessly and evenly blends powder products for a natural finish. I like to use this one to apply blush.

Illuminating/Fan Brush: Like the ones you see on Instagram, the fanned bristles can be used to highlight the tops of the cheekbones, down the nose and cupids bow.

Large Powder/Blush Brush: Ideal for setting your makeup with powder, or applying powder foundations, this brush has super soft bristles and picks up a good amount of product.

Angled Contour Brush: What I use to apply my bronzer, this angled brush makes contouring so easy. Use it to apply bronzer under the cheekbones and around the hairline.

Eye Shadow Blending Brush: I wish I could buy 10 of these separately. You can use it to apply shadow all over the eye, blend out shadows or to apply creamier formulas.

Eye Shadow Brush: Another one of my favourites. This really allows you to pack on shadows to build up pigment before you blend everything out (it can also be used as a concealer brush).

Liner Brush: The only brush I haven’t used yet (because my eyeliner comes with an applicator). This really is a great size for applying liquid liner.

The Reviews:

★★★★★ Great brushes, bargain price – Millie

“These brushes are fantastic! They’re soft, they do their jobs well, ANDDD they don’t shed hairs! Absolute bargain price for such great brushes. 100% recommend.”

★★★★★ Bargain! – Katerina

“So cheap and for the quality, such a steal! Really nice and soft and haven’t shed at all which I am so surprised with! Designer Brands is proving to be a label which is affordable and one you can trust!”

★★★★★ Great value & quality – Ciara

“These brushes are amazing quality! Have not shed and I’ve washed them so many times. The range of brushes is perfect for a full face. The brow brush is perfect and the liner brush for carving out brows is perfect! The eyeshadow brushes blend so well even dark eyeshadow looks.”

I Think This Could Be The Ultimate Dewy Skin Foundation…

I think I’ve made this claim before. In fairness, I’ve tried a lot of foundations as part of my job, and dewy formulas are my jam. So if a foundation hits my favourites list, you can be sure it’s pretty good.

Speaking of my favourites list, there’s a new kid on the block who’s quickly climbing the ranks: YSL’s Touche Éclat All-In-One Glow Foundation. This foundation is literally ticking all of the dewy skin boxes.

What Sets This Foundation Apart?

I think the number one thing I love about this foundation is how beautifully it blends into the skin. It’s so smooth and hydrating, it just glides on regardless of what you use to apply it – I’ve used a brush, sponge and fingertips and the finish is flawless every time.

– Provides light to medium buildable coverage

– I’d say it’s just slightly heavier than a tinted moisturiser

– Super hydrating & comfortable to wear with a natural dewy finish

– It’s an oil-free, long-wearing formula packaged in a travel-friendly tube

– Softly conceals imperfections without ever looking mask-like or cakey

– Smoothes skin texture & evens out the skin tone for a flawless complexion

– Leaves the skin glowy & radiant (best suited to normal-dry skin types)

– Available in 12 shades from very fair to medium-deep

What’s In It?

YSL’s Touche Éclat All-In-One Glow Foundation contains 70% water, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, as well as other protective antioxidants and soothing ingredients like calendula, which explains why it’s such a comfortable, hydrating foundation to wear.

PRO TIP: Because this formula is so dewy, I lightly powder down my T-zone with a translucent setting powder to prevent my skin looking too shiny throughout the day. If you have dry skin though, you probably won’t need the powder.

The Reviews:

★★★★★ Natural glow – Kelly Lee

“I usually use the All Hours foundation and didn’t think this would have the same staying power, I was wrong. It felt really light on my skin and I didn’t need to use a lot to get the coverage I wanted. It lasted a full day in a hot office without any touch-ups ( I even got a comment about how clear my skin looked) and was equally good after a night out.”

★★★★★ Glowing – Josey

“I really like the pump dispenser that this comes in, the click closure lid is great. Colour wise it was a perfect shade for me and I was pleased with how comfortable this felt in my skin and how flawless it made my not-quite-so-perfect complexion look.”

★★★★★ A winner! – Estelle

“I was so worried that to get the lightweight feel and dewy look, I would lose in coverage. But no, this foundation covers imperfections and gives a unified look to my skin without making it greasy. On top of that, I get a gorgeous glow! Even my pictures and selfies look better! My skin looks healthier, more hydrated, simply beautiful!”

This Is The Fastest Shortcut To Natural-Looking Fluffy Brows

I was never one for the “Instagram brow” trend that hit our feeds back in 2014/15. You know, those heavily drawn on brows defined even further by a thick layer of concealer? I’m pretty glad that trend has made its way out.

What replaced the Instagram brow was a trend I do approve of: the brushed up fluffy brow. Only thing is, a lot of us butchered our eyebrows in the 90s, so the term fluffy isn’t exactly applicable for some.

How To Fake Fuller Brows:

Despite plucking my eyebrows incessantly throughout high school, I managed to fully grow them back (after a 5 month ‘growing out’ phase which nearly broke me). Sadly for some, the damage was irreversable.

In that instance, how do we create the illusion of full, fluffy brows? The answer is Napoleon Perdis Wand-er Brow and Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil.

1. Use the spoolie end of your Benefit pencil to brush the brow hairs upwards to expose any sparse areas

2. Use your Benefit pencil to create hair-like strokes through gappy areas, lightly defining underneath the front of the brow and the arches as well

3. Brush Wand-er Brow through the brow hairs using upward strokes – this not only makes the brows look fluffier and fuller, but also lifts the whole eye area.

I’m telling you, Wand-er Brow is SO underrated. This sh*t holds everything in place, so it’s a dream for both sparse and unruly brows.

More About Wand-er Brow:

Easily the strongest-holding brow gel formula I’ve ever used, Wand-er Brow mimics a similar effect to the ‘soap brows‘ technique – oh, and it can double as a mascara.

– Available in three shades: clear, blonde & brunette

– It has a waxy texture which brushes easily through the brows & then sets

– A great tool for defining & shaping the brows (especially for beginners)

– The formula contains Vitamins C + E which condition & strengthen brow hairs

– Ideal for taming naturally fuller & unruly brows (they won’t budge!)

– The built-in wand applicator disperses the product well through the brows

– All shades can also be used as a mascara

This Foundation Contains SPF50…And It’s Actually Good

I know people can get scared off by foundations that contain SPF, but as I sit here writing this article in 44 degree heat, I’d like to remind you that your concerns should be less about flashback, and more about sun protection.

After all, if you’re not wearing your SPF foundation at night in front of a camera flash, we won’t have an issue. And when it comes to Ella Baché’s Suncover Great SPF50 Foundation, I can also assure you this is one of the best high protection formulas going around.

What You Need To Know:

– Ella Baché’s Suncover Great SPF50 Foundation has a light-medium coverage

– Hydrates, protects & promotes an even complexion with its light-diffusing formula

– It has a natural, dewy finish which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines

– Protects skin against harmful UVA/UVB damage thanks to its SPF50 rating

– Enriched with antioxidant Green Tea to help combat free radical damage

– Has a creamy, blendable texture that melts into the skin leaving it hydrated & glowing

– Jojoba & Lanolin protect, moisturise & comfort the skin

The Shades:

Usually when reviewing a foundation, I’d expect there to be an extensive shade range of at least 20+ shades, but on this occasion I’m happy to excuse the fact that Ella Baché’s Suncover Great SPF50 Foundation is currently only available in four shades – cream beige, light beige, medium beige and dark beige. Yep, that’s a lot of beige.

I know how tricky it is to formulate products with such a high SPF and still have them turn out as they should, so kudos to Ella Baché for being able to formulate such a nice foundation that caters to Aussie conditions. Fingers crossed we see some more shades in the future.

The Verdict:

I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t expecting to love this product. When I first swatched it on my hand, I thought for sure that it’d be too thick for me.

But I was proven wrong. The formula actually glided on much smoother than I expected, and as I buffed it in with my Expert Face Brush, it gave my skin a naturally dewy, healthy-looking finish which is exactly what I look for in a foundation. It was also easily buildable in areas I wanted more coverage.

With the added bonus of broad-spectrum sun protection, surprisingly it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on the skin, plus it has a pleasant (only slightly sunscreen-y) smell.

Our Editor’s Guide To Combatting Tired Eyes Instantly

As we all drag ourselves back to work for another year, I find solace in knowing that I’m not the only one pressing the snooze button to try and gain another 10 minutes of sleep each morning.

If like me, you can’t seem to shake that back-to-work lethargy, and it’s showing in the form of tired-looking peepers – these are my tried and tested little hacks that’ll bring you back to life in an instant.

Hide Redness In The Waterline

When we’re tired, our waterline (that bit between your eye ball and your lash line) tends to show signs of redness. Using a nude pencil liner like the
Eye Of Horus Goddess Pencil in Sahara Nude in the waterline not only instantly brightens the area making you look more awake, but also disguises that redness too.

Add A Pop Of Highlight

Even if you’re only wearing a lick of mascara, you can add a touch of highlighter to the inner corner of your eyes either with your pinkie finger or with a small bullet brush to create a subtle brightening effect. I like to use the Erin Bigg Cosmetics Illuminating Powder. You can also lightly dab YSL Touche Éclat under the eyes to lightly conceal and brighten.

Lift Your Brows

Another trick for looking more awake is to give the illusion of lifted brows. All you need to do is line underneath your arch with Benefit High Brow Glow and blend it out with your fingertip. This really helps to combat heavy-looking brows which can make you look more tired. I’d also recommend brushing your eyebrows upwards with Benefit Gimme Brow +.
