For those of you who are already lip liner experts, you can skip this part. For beginners, this little guide might come in handy.
Tip #1:Don’t just line the border of your lips (this technique is too 90s). Lip liner will help your lipstick to last much longer, so I recommend shading in the body of your lips, starting from the border and working inwards.
Tip #2: If you’re overlining, make sure you follow the natural shape of your lips and avoid overlining more than a couple of millimetres.
Tip #3: To create a really defined Cupid’s bow, draw an “X”, starting from the inside peak of the Cupid’s bow on one side, crossing it over to the other side and repeat.
“These lip pencils are a beautiful formula and help to define your lip and give you extra pout! I love that the colours also match the lipsticks or can be used on their own all over the lip for a matte look. I have colours Whirl and Spice, both are amazing!”
★★★★★ Mother of all lip pencils– Rebecca
“I have used these lip pencils for years and they’re just a cut above other brands. I have the colours Spice and also Soar. They are perfect under most lip shades and they absolutely help to make your lipstick last longer.”
★★★★★ Love it– Yoshie
“MAC lip pencils are incredible, definitely my favourites. They are creamy and smooth to apply, but stiff enough to easily and accurately line your lips.”
★★★★★ Highly recommended – Gabriella
“Amazing formula and has staying power. I use both as a liner for lipsticks and also as a tint/lipstick on its own with a bit of lip balm or gloss over the top.”
Literally all of them! No I’m kidding. Kind of. Anyway, these shades are all super versatile which makes it hard to just pick one. So based on your eye colour, I’ve listed the shades below that’ll complement your eyes the most.
Green or Hazel: Cosmic is a gorgeous champagne-toned shade, and Eclipse is a rich purple that really makes green eyes pop.
Brown: Mystic is a shimmery mauve which pairs well with brown eyes, as well as Spellbound which is a pearly pink that adds a rosy tint.
Blue: Lunar allows you to create a soft grey smoky eye, while Cosmic adds a light-catching golden sparkle to the lids.
“I bought Spellbound and Cosmic after seeing one of my favourite makeup bloggers using them and I’m so glad that I did; the colour payoff and staying power of these is great – wore them on nights out where I did a lot of dancing and they didn’t budge. I totally recommend these.”
★★★★★ Obsessed – Rachel
“I purchased Spellbound and Luna as soon as I saw them! Received this morning and I am in love!! The colour pay off is amazing and so easy to apply, definitely will be buying the other shades!”
★★★★★ Innovative & amazing – Sandy
“I find them very easy to use, almost fool-proof.For maximum intensity, my finger tips are the best application tools. There’s absolutely no fallout with these Chrome Flashes. They blend out effortlessly, dry relatively fast but fear not you still have enough time to blend (not that it requires much blending).Once applied, the product stays PUT on my oily lids.”
In the beauty world in 2018, 22 shades wouldn’t usually be something to write home about. I mean, other brands like Fenty and Make Up For Ever are boasting 40+ shades.
But I do want to mention that I think Clarins have managed to really nail these 22 shades. From the fairest, right up to the deepest shades, this foundation has catered for all undertones, making it so much easier to narrow down your match.
“Absolutely LOVE this foundation; usually I go for a full coverage but wanted to try this one as it looked flawless, and I wasn’t disappointed. I find it so versatile, quick and easy to apply in the morning for a natural look for work, then I can build coverage with more than 1 layer when I’m going out. It stayed on all night (even when I was dancing all night). So pleased I’ve finally found an “all-round” foundation.”
★★★★★ Love it – Jan
“I have tried very, very many foundations over the years and this is the one I would give the highest thumbs up to! It is a lovely consistency and beautiful to spread and blend giving a glowing, healthy finish.”
★★★★★ Exactly what I was looking for – Mondaine
“It’s perfect for every day use, evens out my skin and makes it look fresh and natural while covering imperfections. I have combination dry skin and it’s quite difficult to find a foundation that won’t be a hot mess or cling to dry patches. I also love the fact that you can apply with fingers… perfect for when you’re away and don’t want to worry about taking brushes with you. I would definitely recommend it.”
I want to make this clear before we get any further: I usually steer completely clear of stick foundations.
In the past, I’ve found stick foundations are just way too full coverage for me personally – so I wasn’t expecting any big surprises when Yves Saint Laurent’s All Hours Foundation Stick landed on my desk.
On a whim, I decided to try it before I headed out for the night, and I’ve never had so many compliments on my skin.
What Makes It Different?
For starters, it’s not even my preferred finish and I’m still willing to ditch my go-to dewy foundation for this cream-to-powder matte formula. So what exactly do you need to know about this foundation before you splurge on it?
– It has the lightest, silkiest finish of any foundation I’ve tried
– The oil-free matte formula feels almost undetectable on the skin
– Goes on as medium coverage & can be easily sheered out or built up
– This foundation also multi-tasks as a concealer & contouring stick
– Applies creamy & dries down to a long-lasting powder finish
– Gives the skin a flawless, smooth & plump-looking appearance
– It’s suitable for all skin types, especially oily/combo (I have normal/dry)
– It is silicon-based so won’t be suitable if your skin is sensitive to silicones
As I said above, I got lots of compliments on my skin wearing YSL’s All Hours Foundation Stick. It really does make you look flawless, and makes the texture of your skin look incredibly smooth without looking cakey. I just sheered it out with my fingers so you could still see the freckles on my nose.
I knew as I was applying the velvety formula that it was silicon-based, which my skin generally doesn’t agree with, but I persevered and haven’t had any adverse reaction from using it (I don’t wear it daily, just on weekends).
While I can appreciate the high price point may be off-putting for some, I’ll definitely be repurchasing it.
This foundation is perfect for any user as it is incredibly versatile and you can build up coverage to as little or as full as you like. I’ve also found these foundation sticks great for contouring as the blend so easily into the skin. Despite being a stick foundation it’s actually very creamy and light on the skin.
★★★★★ Perfect for on-the-go touch ups – Tania
“I really like this stick for its simplicity of use. When I’m in a rush in the morning I simply moisturise and put this on. Swipe across the face, blend with your fingers and you are done! Nice and small to fit in any handbag, so perfect for touch ups throughout the day. ”
★★★★★ Double whammy -Leslie
“I used the stick as a basic foundation and already loved it, soft creamy texture with a light but good coverage. Then I used it later as a top up for my nighttime look and bam! Also works as a great concealer and touch up product, it’s light so it doesn’t pull the rest of your makeup off or look caked on and it last as long as you do! Definitely recommend it as a bit of a secret weapon!”
I’ve been rationing out my beloved Laura Mercier Radiance Primer since July, waiting for something even remotely similar to take its place in my heart.
After trying an endless array of products, I’d nearly given up replacing my holy grail primer. That was until Pixi’s Flawless Beauty Primer landed on my desk last week.
What Makes It A Dupe?
If you’re not down with beauty speak, ‘dupe’ refers to a (usually cheaper) ‘duplicate’ of a popular product. In this case, Pixi’s Flawless Beauty Primer is almost identical to Laura Mercier’s Radiance Primer, it’s available in Australia (unlike Laura) and it’s a buck cheaper.
On my mission to find a dupe, I’ve found that most similar products are either too bronzey or too pearlescent – this one is the perfect blend and gives pretty much the same finish as my trusty Laura.
I’m all about getting the most out of my products, so I don’t stop at priming with this product. Actually, I don’t even use it as a primer technically. I actually mix it directly with my foundation or tinted moisturiser to give my skin a natural-looking luminous finish.
My other little hack with this product is to use it as a liquid illuminator – it has a gorgeous champagne tone that looks stunning on all skin tones. Just take a small amount on your fingertips and pat it onto your cheekbones.
What’s Everyone Saying?
★★★★★ Amazing glowy primer – Leslie
“This primer does great preventing creases and helps with applying concealer and foundation evenly to the skin. I love using this every day even when not using foundation to give the skin an amazing glowy look.”
★★★★★ Perfection in a primer – Lola
“I have extremely dry skin that looks so dull. I actually think I love this one MORE than my Smashbox primer. The consistency is almost like a moisturiser. My skin was so dewy and radiant after. I honestly couldn’t stop staring at my face. I even needed less foundation than normal too. I honestly think this is the most amazing primer, and I’m so glad I gave it a try.”
★★★★★ If I could only choose one… – Mary Jane
“This would be it! This primer goes on smoothly, feels great and gives my skin the most incredible GLOW! It beats any other primer, including some more expensive ones, that I have tried. There is just something extra special about it; doesn’t make my “well over 40″ face look sparkly or settle in the lines. It just gives it a beautiful, subtle, sun kissed glow. LOVE IT!”
From about the age of 15, bronzer has been one beauty item that has always remained in my makeup bag. As someone with a fair skin tone, I’ve relied heavily on bronzer to warm up my complexion, add definition and fake a sunkissed glow.
I’m just going to skip over the part where I didn’t know my limits for about the first two years and was walking around like I was on Jersey Shore.
What’s My Go-To?
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, because it’s the most reviewed bronzer on adorebeauty.com.au. Of course, it has to be the shimmer-free, universally flattering Benefit Hoola.
The biggest appeal for me is that this bronzer doesn’t contain shimmer or glitter, which a) makes it more versatile, and b) prevents you from looking like the tin man.
The worst thing about shimmery cheek products is that if they’re applied heavily, that shimmer brings attention to enlarged pores and dry areas (both of which are usually found on the cheeks). I personally prefer the shimmer to be in my highlighter only, thanks.
If you’re already a bronzing pro, you can skip over this part. For any beauty beginners, this is a helpful little guide to where you should apply bronzer.
Bronze:For a natural-looking faux glow, tap your brush into Hoola and flick off any excess product to avoid looking ‘muddy’. Dust across larger areas of the face that would tan naturally, like the forehead, cheeks, and bridge of the nose.
Contour: Again, pick up the powder on your brush and tap off the excess, before applying underneath the cheekbones and/or other areas where shadows naturally fall. Pull the fish face if you need to expose your cheekbones for easier application. Blend, blend, blend!
Define: I always keep my Hoola handy as an on-the-go eyeshadow. The warm tone blended over the lid and deepened in the crease defines the eyes beautifully.
Let’s not sugarcoat anything here – having sensitive eyes is bloody annoying. If you experience sensitivity yourself, you’re probably familiar with watery mascara streaks, black smudges, itchiness and bloodshot eyes. Not fun, is it?
Dermatologists and ophthalmologists say the key to preventing discomfort and allergens is to use gentle eye makeup products. This is where La Roche-Posay’s Respectissime Sensitive Volume Mascara comes in.
This formula is designed for those with sensitivities to eye products, or for those or who wear contact lenses. If your eyes have suddenly become sensitive or irritated, consider what’s causing that irritation.
Has your mascara expired? Bacteria build up can cause irritation and infection – it’s a good idea to replace your mascara every 3 months. Or have you got hayfever? There’s a waterproof version of this mascara if your itchiness and watering is caused by hayfever.
Who’s Loving It?
★★★★★ Great product– Samantha
I have highly sensitive eyes and struggle with hay fever. Needless to say when I wear most mascaras it tends to end up looking like the worst smudged eyeliner. I just discovered this and found it does make a huge difference to my eyes , gives great lashes and so far pretty good at the no smudging. Highly happy with it so far!
★★★★★ Fabulous mascara – Arwa
“I really love this mascara, it gives the right amount of volume to my lashes and the formula is not too wet or dry, just the right balance. I’m really pleased with the results I get from using this mascara. I will definitely buy it again.”
★★★★★ It surprised me how much I loved this mascara – Sarah
“When I tried this mascara, I really wasn’t expecting much from a skincare brand – wow I was wrong. I wouldn’t say it’s the MOST volumising mascara, but it is pretty much the perfect everyday mascara. Great formula that can be layered easily without worrying about your lashes sticking together or becoming a clumpy mess.”
