A round brush does the job of a set of rollers while you blow dry. The curved barrel lifts hair at the roots and bends the ends, so you can get volume, a smooth polished finish or a soft curl, depending on how you wrap it. Call it a round brush or a radial brush, the idea is the same: tension plus heat shapes the hair as it dries. Here you will find round hair brushes in a range of barrel sizes, from a small round brush for fringes and short cuts to larger barrels for long hair. Not sure a round brush is what you need? Compare it with the full range of hair brushes and tools first.
Barrel size does most of the work. A smaller barrel suits short hair, fringes and tighter curls, and the evo spike 28mm radial brush is a good example. For shoulder-length hair, the GHD Ceramic Radial Brush (Size 3) has a 45mm barrel. Long hair usually needs a larger barrel to get smooth volume. Then look at the bristles. A boar bristle round brush grips and smooths, which many people with fine hair like, and the evo Bruce 22 Natural Boar Bristle Radial Brush is one to look at. Thick or coarse hair often does better with nylon or mixed bristles that hold more tension. A ceramic, vented barrel such as the evo Hank 52 Ceramic Vented Radial Brush is designed to heat evenly and let air through. If you are hunting for the best round brush for blow drying, match barrel size to your hair length and bristles to your texture. If you only need to smooth and detangle, a paddle brush is the easier tool.
Start with towel-dried hair and rough dry it until it is mostly dry before you pick up the brush. Smooth on a heat protectant first, then section the hair and clip the top layers out of the way. Place the brush under a section at the roots, roll it down the length and follow it with the nozzle of your hairdryer, keeping the hair taut. Lift at the roots for volume, or roll the ends under for a smooth bend. Finish each section with a blast of cool air to set the shape. Going back over a section that is still damp is better than forcing the brush through, since pulling on wet hair is how it breaks.
