If you’ve struggled to achieve orgasm through penetrative sex or other internal stimulation, you're not alone.

In fact, it would be my pleasure to introduce you to the device I describe to my friends as “the magic vacuum”.

I'm talking about clitoral suction and/or clitoral stimulation devices.

There's a good chance this game-changing style of sex toy will deliver new sensations you’ve never even felt before. Which is why I call it “magic”.

But what exactly is clitoral suction and how do clitoral stimulation devices work? And which are the best clitoral stimulators?

I interviewed Dr Ginni Mansberg, a GP and host of Embarrassing Bodies Down Under, to better understand why clitoral stimulation is so important to female pleasure.

Side note, you can also hear more honest, helpful discussion around clitoral stimulation and suction devices in this episode of After Dark on the Bite-Sized Beauty podcast below.

What is Clitoral Stimulation?

Let’s start at the very beginning with a little anatomy lesson.

Your vulva includes your labia majora (the outer folds of skin which grow hair), labia minora (the inner folds which have no hair growth), vagina, urethra… And right above the urethra, there’s a little button, which is your clitoris.

According to Dr Ginni, the clitoris is more than just that tiny button you can feel.

"The clitoris is a cluster of nerves. In most women, it looks a little bit like an octopus, with tentacles," she says.

The only known function of the clitoris is to provide pleasure.

The most common medical view, based on research by Masters and Johnson (the real life duo portrayed in the TV show Masters of Sex), is that all female orgasms during intercourse are triggered by direct or indirect clitoral stimulation.

In other words, if you want to reach orgasm, you’ll need to stimulate your clitoris, whether that’s indirectly (with fingers or an external vibrator) or indirectly (through penetration or an internal vibrator).

Clitoral Stimulation vs. G-Spot Stimulation - What’s The Difference?

Dr Ginni says that the existence of a G-Spot has never been proven and it’s most likely an extension of the clitoris.

“[The G-Spot] is probably those tentacles, the outlier nerves that hang down from the clitoris.”

According to Dr Ginni, many sex toy manufactures now understand that internal stimulation may not be enough for many vulva owners to achieve orgasm.

“The addition of clitoral stimulation makes it a better sex toy.”

How Does A Clitoral Suction Stimulator Work?

Until the invention of the clitoral suction stimulator, vibrators, well, vibrated.

Those vibrations would stimulate the tip of the clitoris until orgasm.

I owe a big thank you to the genius mind who created the clitoral vacuum, which uses air and suction technology to simulate oral sex.

But not just any oral sex. The best oral sex of your life. Yep, I’m calling it.

And if you don’t believe me, just read a handful of clitoral stimulation device reviews.

You’ll read “BEST ORGASM OF MY LIFE” more than once.

Clitoral vacuum devices work by enveloping the clitoris - as opposed to just vibrating the tip of the clitoris - and using suction technology to stimulate it until orgasm.

Clitoral vibrators (as opposed to the suction devices) have also come a long way with some actually mimicking the vibrations of a tongue!

How to Use a Clitoral Stimulator.

If you’re not 100 per cent sure where your clitoris is (and there’s absolutely no shame in that) and if you feel comfortable, I would suggest taking a mirror and having a look.

You’ll see (and feel) the little button, and that’s the area where you’ll want to place the head of the vacuum.

I would start on the lowest setting as these devices can be pretty powerful at the highest setting.

If you’re ready to take things to the next level, you can also add a clitoral stimulation gel like Luvloob Natural Climax Arousal Gels which are designed to enhance clitoral sensation through either warming or cooling.

Just apply the gel to the clitoris before you start using your device.

How to Clean Your Clitoral Stimulation Device.

It’s important to clean your device to avoid bacteria build up and to extend the life of your device. Remember, it’s going on your vulva!

Use hot water and an unscented soap to clean the device and let it air dry. You can also use a sex toy cleaner, like the INTIMINA Intimate Accessory Cleaner.
