The Anti-Redness Serum That Changed My Skin Now Comes In a Mist

Let me tell you a short story about how I found the serum that completely changed my skin...

Past-me was constantly in a battle with eczema on my temples and near my ears. It wasn't the worst case of eczema, but it was enough to bother me on really bad days.

Then, on an otherwise ordinary evening, I decided to live a little and try double cleansing... with a spicy glycolic acid cleanser. Cue, an incredibly painful perioral dermatitis flare up all over my face.

It was actually Adore's Beauty Editor Joanna who suggested I try a soothing routine, including a bright green serum that smelt... herby.

That serum was SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel and after a week of using it, my skin was essentially back to normal.

That was two years ago, and my skin and I have never looked back.

Redness? Almost gone. Flare ups on my temples? Haven't seen them since. Although this serum isn't a cure-all for redness and irritation, I still genuinely think my skin would look and feel much angrier if I ever decided to stop using it.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Essence Mist is a hydrating botanical essence in a handy (and hygienic) mist form.

Like the Phyto Corrective Serum and Phyto Corrective Masque before it, this green mist strengthens the skin's barrier, soothes dehydrated or sensitised skin, and reduces visible redness.

Even though it's especially great for anyone who is concerned about inflammation and redness (say, from rosacea or acne), literally any skin type can benefit from the extra hydration this mist delivers. Same goes if you've just had a professional skin treatment.

Use it in the morning after cleansing before applying serums, over makeup to keep skin hydrated throughout the day, at night before bed - whenever you want, really.

OK, But What's Actually In It?

Excellent question. The key ingredients in SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Essence Mist include:

• A 'phyto-botanical' blend of boldus leaf, cucumber, thyme, olive leaf and rosemary extract that helps to soothe and comfort skin.

• A 6.2 per cent blend of hydrating humectant ingredients hyaluronic acid and glycerin to draw in and retain water in the skin.

• It's also free from parabens, alcohol, gluten and silicone.

In other words, it's all the soothing goodness of the serum and face mask, but in a convenient face mist/essence hybrid.

If you've read this far, you're aware I froth the SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel.

But honestly, the lazy girl in me is happy to now have the mist option that takes zero effort to apply. I've been using it either in place of the gel, before my morning serums, or later in the day when my skin starts feeling meh.

Here are my first impressions of this product so far:

• Perfect hand-held size. Elegant and luxe glass bottle. Only thing is, I wouldn't want to put it in my bag in case I broke it, so not super travel-friendly.

• Very important detail - the actual mist is gentle and uniform, which is rare to find. No spitting feels here.

• Feels super lightweight on the skin. Absorbs nicely and doesn't leave my face feeling drenched.

• Has an immediate cooling effect that leaves my skin looking and feeling hydrated and soothed.

• Rustic herbal scent that smells like dried herbs, but is still quite fresh. It's the same Phyto Corrective scent I'm used to.

• Bonus points, love that I can mist this on top of my makeup.

Final Verdict...

Does everyone really need an essence or mist in their skincare routine? Nope. And would this Phyto Corrective mist replace my beloved gel? Also no, but that's because it's not meant to.

If the serum sets my skin up for the day, think of this very delightful, hard-working mist as a power nap for when it gets irritated, cranky and/or perpetually thirsty.

It's quick and easy to mist whenever I feel like my skin needs a chill moment. Which is... a lot of the time.

I'm currently navigating hormonal adult acne that leaves my skin feeling uncomfortable and looking a bit irritated throughout the day (particularly around my chin), so being able to get instant relief with this mist is brilliant.

Even better, I don't have to get up and wash my hands like I would if I wanted to reapply the gel.

So, if you deal with frequent irritations and random flare ups like me, you'll want to bathe in this mist.

Probably don't, though. Better to save every last drop for your face.
