Could This Be The Secret To Brighter Under-Eyes?

This is hands-down the most frequently asked question I get as a Beauty Editor: "which eye cream should I buy?" And the truth is, it really depends on what your concerns are. There's no one size fits all with skincare, which is why understanding your skin type and concerns is so important (if you need help with this, you can listen to our podcast here).

What Causes Dark Circles?

The unfortunate reality is, that while we can improve the appearance of fine lines around the eyes, reduce puffiness, boost hydration and add a hint of brightness, in most cases dark circles cannot be solved with just an eye cream.

Dark circles can be hereditary, caused by allergies, ageing, a lack of sleep or poor diet among various other triggers. Changes in pigment or a predisposition to excess pigment around the eye can also result in a darkening of the delicate skin in the area.

And while I'm confident your dark circles won't disappear overnight with the use of an eye cream, it's certainly better to be using one than nothing at all. So if you're looking for something to help brighten and revitalise your under-eyes, keep reading.

Tell Me More...

I've been trialling Dermalogica's new Bio-Lumin-C Eye Serum for the last couple of months during a time when I've lacked sleep, been stressed, and eaten a hell of a lot of sugar. So this eye serum had it's work cut out for it.

Funnily enough, I only have one dark circle. I know - weird. It's under my left eye which is usually my good side, but this dark circle has continued to worsen and was starting to really bother me. Now, I used this serum under both eyes, just in case anyone was wondering.

I've noticed an improvement in the hydration around my eyes, and while my lone dark circle hasn't disappeared, I do feel like my under-eyes look a bit brighter in general. I also really like the texture of this serum - a little bit goes a long way, it's non-irritating and sits well under makeup too.

What Does A Vitamin C Eye Serum Do?

According to Dermalogica Training Specialist, Ellie Douglas, this serum uses an ultra-stable form of Vitamin C to brighten, firm and strengthen the skin around the eyes.

"Vitamin C’s most well-known shortfall is its instability. It’s easily broken down by light, air and heat. If you want your Vitamin C to really make a difference to your skin then it needs to be stabilised. This serum features an ultra-stable Vitamin C complex with advanced biotechnology to drive it deep into the skin."

  • This eye serum brightens, firms & optimises the skin's own natural defences

  • Helps to prevent skin damage and premature ageing caused by environmental factors

  • This formula helps to addresses fine lines and wrinkles by protecting against oxidative stress

  • It’s lightweight, cooling and comfortable around the eyes making it suitable for all skin types

  • The formula is packed with sin-loving antioxidants and nourishing ingredients

What's In Dermalogica's Bio-Lumin-C Eye Serum?

Apart from the Vitamin C complex, this formula also features anti-ageing Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 which is designed to support and promote a more youthful appearance to the skin, brightening and firming as it goes.

Antioxidant-rich Arjun Tree Extract (which has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine) is packed with polyphenols to help boost the resilience of skin and protect against free radical damage.

High in omega-3 fatty acids, Chia Seed Oil offers both hydration and protection, while Micro-Algae Extract and Papain revitalise and smooth to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and mushroom extracts help to lock in moisture and disguise fine lines.
