Blush Is Back: This Is How To Choose The Right Shade For Your Skin Tone

Blush is well and truly back! After a brief hiatus from the beauty world – temporarily outshone by the wonders of bronzer and highlighter – blush has made its return.

Not every blush is the same shade, so to ensure you’re choosing the right shade for your skin tone, we’ve created a little go-to guide with the help of our resident makeup artist.

Light Skin Tones

Best suited to: Red, pink and light peachy shades.

Stay away from anything too orange, as it could look too harsh on skin. Otherwise, if you want to add a little more warmth to your complexion, you can go with a light bronzer, or BECCA Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle doubles as a blush and highlighter (shop here).

Products that will compliment light skin tones are Clarins Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour in Sweet Rose (shop here) or Benefit CORALista (shop here).

Medium Skin Tones

Best suited to: Rich pinks, warm mauves and apricot shades.

For medium skin tones, stay away from cool colours, as they can leave olive complexions looking dull.

Products I’d recommend for medium/olive skin tones are BECCA Luminous Blush in Snapdragon (shop here) or Youngblood Pressed Mineral Blush in Blossom (shop here).

Deeper Skin Tones

Best suited to: Bold colours!

Bold shades look incredible on dark skin tones. Stay away from anything too light, or too purple, as it can look unflattering on the skin.

I love blushes with a slight gold shimmer through it, as it really lifts the cheeks and makes the skin look absolutely beautiful!

If you have dark skin, the blushes I’d go for are theBalm Instain Long Wearing Staining Powder Blush in Lace (shop here) or Bobbi Brown Blush in Berry (shop here).
