Is This at-Home Brightening Facial *Really* as Good As Microdermabrasion?

I think by now, it’s no secret vitamin C is my number one skincare ingredient.

Why, you might ask? Well, how much time you got?

If there’s one ingredient that’s going to get you that elusive glow (even after knocking back a few glasses of wine), it’s our friend vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid or ascorbic acid.

I love it so hard, I even wrote a manifesto story about how vitamin C changed my life and LIFTED my stubborn pigmentation, complete with before and after photos to prove it.

Applied regularly, this antioxidant ingredient helps to boost collagen, regulate melanin production and protect your skin against free radical damage (free radicals are substances that cause damage within your cells).

The result? Skin that looks plump, hydrated and as if it's never seen a single ray of sun in its life. OK, slight exaggeration but fun fact: vitamin C works with your sunscreen* for even greater protection from ageing UV rays and free radicals.

Side note - You can learn more about how vitamin C in skincare works in our YouTube video below.

The only hiccup is it takes, minimum, a couple of weeks of consistent use to notice visible results from topical vitamin C skin care. I know. Good things come to those who wait, but what if there was a shortcut to the most radiant-looking skin of your life?

Plot twist: There is, it's called the Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial.

Murad’s newest skincare launch promises to rival the results of a microdermabrasion treatment, and in just 10 minutes.

Sounds amazing, but is it worth the hype? Keep scrolling for all the details, plus my review.

What Is the Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial?

Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial 80ml is an at-home exfoliating mask clinically proven to brighten and smooth skin texture as effectively as a microderm facial, in just one use. Intrigued? I was too.

The product combines not one, not two, but THREE different types of exfoliation AND vitamin C.

It also boasts some pretty impressive stats: 87 per cent of users saw brighter skin with two weeks of continued use, with 97 per cent confirming their skin felt smoother post-facial.

Who is this product best for? Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial can be used on normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitised and mature-aged skin. The only exception is if you have active (re: angry and inflamed) pustular acne; wait until it has fully healed before using this product.

It's also great for anyone who wants to minimise the look of skin concerns like dullness, uneven texture, hyperpigmentation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (acne scarring).

And at $99, this isn't what most would call 'affordable', but any active, targeted skincare treatment product under $100 is very reasonable.

Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial Ingredients.

Let’s dive in, here's a recap of the main ingredients and how they work:

  • Vita-C complex with 'gold-stabilized' vitamin C: Translated, this means the formula contains L-ascorbic acid (the purest, most effective form of vitamin C) in a way that increases its absorption and efficacy, without irritation.

  • Physical exfoliation: Micro-mineral exfoliants remove dead surface skin cells.

  • Enzymatic exfoliation: High-performing fruit enzymes dissolve oil and debris from skin.

  • Chemical exfoliation: A combination of glycolic and lactic acids (AHAs or alpha hydroxy acids) and salicylic acid (a beta hydroxy acid or BHA) exfoliates both the surface and deeper dermal layers of the skin.

  • Glycerin: A super hydrating humectant ingredient that helps maintain moisture levels in the skin.

Basically, you get all the big superhero skincare ingredients in this one product to leave skin looking brighter, smoother and more radiant, while still feeling soft, supple and hydrated.

My Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial Review.

I’ve had this orange tube in my beauty fridge for a few weeks now, so I’ve really had a chance to test this on my skin thoroughly... and I'm in love.

Wanna know how to use the Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial? I'd recommend applying the product once a week on an evening when you won't be using any other vitamin A or exfoliating products.

Squeeze a 10 cent piece amount of this thick, slightly gritty mask into your palms and gently rub onto clean, dry skin using a circular motion.

Once the colour has changed from light orange to white (see photos below), stop and leave the mask to work its magic for up to 10 minutes before rinsing off. Follow with moisturiser and take your glowy skin to bed.

Aside from the fresh, very subtle scent, one of the main things I noticed after using the mask for the first time was how healthy my skin felt and looked. It was definitely smoother, and it appeared brighter.

Three days later, I slathered the mask on again. My skin was feeling a bit sensitised and dehydrated (thanks hormones), so I patiently waited to see if I'd experience any tingling.

To my surprise, there was nothing.

No burning, stinging, tingling, redness or any other type of aggravation. Again, my skin instantly appeared more radiant and even-textured.

Here's a close up of my skin post-facial.

Final Verdict...

Remember how I said Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial claims to be as just good after one use as a microdermabrasion treatment?

While nothing could ever replace the expert hands of a qualified skin professional, this product legitimately is a close second.

But the real question is… would I repurchase it? 100 per cent.

Honestly, my hyperpigmentation and I were sold the second I read 81 per cent of people saw an improvement in their dark spots after just four weeks of use.

But the fact I can use this product for instantly glowy, dewy skin from the comfort of my living room while shamelessly eating peanut butter makes it a BIG yes from me.

If you’ve been wanting to try microdermabrasion but can't justify the cost, or are looking for a truly excellent exfoliating and brightening product (minus the $$$ price tag), I'd be adding this one to your cart ASAP.
