How Does Mineral Makeup Differ ?
You see, mineral makeup is a type of makeup that often contains less potential allergens such as preservatives and fragrances. They are also my favourite types of formulas to use on clients post in-clinic skin treatments and on ‘no makeup, makeup days’. Mainly because a lot of mineral makeup is often made with the health of your skin in mind.
However, while mineral makeup is often touted as the go-to for acne and congestion, Erin Voyer, National Educator for Jane Iredale warns not all mineral makeup formulas are made the same and some mineral makeup can cause acne too.
“Like conventional makeup, some mineral makeups on the market still contain such bulking ingredients as Talc, Nylon, Starch (Rice and Corn) and other undesirable ingredients that may cause allergic reactions, breakouts or irritations,” she tells me.
“True mineral makeup shouldn’t contain any of these bulking ingredients, but instead should be made from a combination of any of the following ingredients: Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxides, Mica or Boron Nitride.”
So when shopping for a quality, pure pigment mineral makeup, it’s important to keep in mind the ingredients above that might be included – along of course, with the elimination of synthetic preservatives and fragrances that mask chemical smells that may be contained in some conventional makeup as well.
