Is This Overnight Blonde Hair Serum as Good as the Cult Original? Here Are My Thoughts

Having been an artificial blonde for the last six years, I definitely know a thing or two about hair damage.

While I'm not a total baddie when it comes to looking after my mane, it does feel dry thanks to all the damage caused over time.

Recently, I was tasked to review a daily hair serum. It's called the Kérastase Blond Absolu Night Hair Serum 90ml - naturally, my hair and I jumped at the opportunity.

Could this serum finally reverse the damage that years of colouring has caused?

Keep scrolling for everything you need to know about the Kérastase Blond Absolu Serum, and what I thought of it.

What Is the Kérastase Blond Absolu Serum?

Kérastase Blond Absolu Night Hair Serum 90ml is specially formulated for lightened blonde hair (hello, that’s me!), and echoes the sentiments of a skin serum; you’re meant to apply it at night so it can work its magic while you snooze.

It also feels really heavenly - the texture is a lightweight gel that thirsty hair will guzzle instantly.

How Does the Kérastase Blonde Serum Work?

Sounds fab, but how does it actually work? Kérastase Blond Absolu Night Hair Serum 90ml can tackle dry and brittle hair via two powerful ingredients.

First, there’s hyaluronic acid. Just like how it can plump thirsty skin, the HA in this hair serum can boost hydration and elasticity, as well as strengthen each hair from the inside out.

Plus, the formula also contains edelweiss, which can increase your hair’s resilience to daily aggressors like wind, sun and overall damage from over-processing. This ingredient also works to soften the hair and make it more manageable.

Kérastase Blonde Serum vs 8hr Magic Night Serum.

If you feel like this bottle looks familiar, you're not wrong. You're probably thinking of the brand’s original overnight hair serum.

Kérastase Nutritive 8hr Magic Night Serum is ranked in the top 4 SKUs at Adore Beauty, which comes as no surprise as it does a top job of increasing moisture in your hair. While these two products seem similar, they’re slightly different in texture and are designed for different concerns.

Blond Absolu Sérum Cicanuit is specially formulated to repair lightened blonde hair without weighing it down. It’s also designed to target damage caused by bleaching, such as split ends and dehydration.

My Kérastase Blond Absolu Serum Review.

A bit of context on my hair:

I visit my colourist religiously every eight weeks (or 10, if I’m pushing it). In-between appointments, I use a salon-quality shampoo every time I wash my hair and a deep-conditioning mask.

Right now, Kérastase Blond Absolu Bain Ultra-Violet and Kérastase Blond Absolu Bain Lumiere are on high-rotation in my shower.

Being a big fan of the shampoo and masque in the Kérastase blonde range already, I had high expectations of this product... and I wasn’t let down.

I used this almost every day for two weeks, and it wasn’t until after the first week that I really noticed a difference. Here are my before and after photos having used the product for the last fortnight.

Adding this serum into my routine was super simple - you can use it on dry or wet hair, but since I don’t wash my hair every day (more like every three days), I used it mostly on dry hair.

I popped two to three pumps in my palms, and massaged the product into my mid-lengths and ends. After a few minutes, my hair completely absorbed the product, and the serum wasn't sticky to touch.

My hair looked less frizzy when I woke up, it felt stronger and less prone to snapping, and most importantly, it felt really soft without being weighed down.

Oh, and one of my favourite things about this product is its scent.

Kérastase Blond Absolu Night Hair Serum 90ml smells really light, fresh and floral, and features notes like orange blossom, peony, bergamot, mandarin, fig and cedarwood. I really enjoyed catching a whiff of it when I applied it.

I love the versatility of the product as you can use it on wet and dry hair, and especially that it can target so many common blonde hair concerns like brittleness and dryness in one application.

Best of all, it didn’t leave a residue on my pillow overnight, which is definitely a bonus!

Would I keep using this product? Absolutely - it's a no-brainer product my hair can't get enough of.
