7 Healthy Hair Tips From Apotecari's CEO and Founder

As a certified formulation naturopath and nutritionist, I know a bit about cultivating beauty from the inside out. My name is Simone Abaron and I'm Apotecari's CEO and Founder.

Taking lessons from the study of Trichology, I formulated a range of specialist scalp and hair growth supplements: Crowning Glory, Mane Event, and Hair Food.

Alongside using Apotecari’s supplements for hair growth and strength, I have a few tips to share about holistic beauty and wellbeing.

So, here are my 7 best healthy hair tips for busy people looking for an overall boost. Not to mention some fabulous insights into how to maintain healthy hair growth.

7 Best Healthy Hair Tips

1. Take care of your scalp

Here’s something you probably didn’t know - the scalp ages 6 times faster than the face and holds the face taut.

If our scalps are losing elasticity, we see a decline in the condition of our hair, and our face will start to drop, adding to the ageing process.

You can detoxify the scalp regularly with a good scrub to ensure excess product, dead skin, perspiration and pollution are removed, giving your scalp and hair a great chance at thriving.

You can also try a hair supplement, like the Apotecari Crowning Glory 1 month Supply, which supports a balanced, healthy scalp.

Or the Apotecari Mane Event 1 Month Supply, a supplement that supports the natural growth of strong, healthy hair.

Mane Event has also undergone a recent upgrade to include Apotecari's exclusive Hairtellectual® hyaluronic acid for soft, touchable and plump strands along with herbs, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Hair health starts with the scalp, so if you're wanting healthy locks, gloss, movement and increased growth, nurture your scalp as step one.

2. Reduce stress

The first place your inner stress will show is in your skin and hair. If you find yourself in this position, try to help the body destress - supplement it with extra nutrition, cut the junk food, try to breathe deeply and get quality sleep where you can.

3. Beauty starts from within

There are numerous ingredients that serve to feed and protect the scalp and strands, and we may already have some in our diet.

The difference a nutritional supplement makes in hydrating our hair can be huge, and goes beyond a 'symptom fix' usually addressing the cause.

  • For the scalp and health of my hair: Apotecari Crowning Glory 1 month Supply is a daily supplement to encourage hair growth and scalp health. Using a wide range of nourishing (and vegan) ingredients, Crowning Glory helps to fight frizz, dehydration, hair breakage and more. This should be the first step in your Apotecari hair regime, and is a great starting place to getting your hair healthy and back on track.

  • For hair growth: Wondering what vitamins help hair growth? Add Apotecari Mane Event 2 Month Supply to your routine to help nourish your lengths. This hair growth supplement contains the essential building blocks to strengthen hair and encourage growth, also promoting repair. These vegan hair supplements provide impressive results and aim to support and nourish your hair as it increases growth.

  • An overall hair booster: Apotecari Mane Event 1 Month Supply works as a booster to the other two supplements, with plant-based collagen and proteins for strand weight and gloss. Different to a pill supplement, this powder supplement can be enjoyed in your daily smoothie (just an extra perk). It has a natural pomegranate, strawberry and coconut flavour, and is packed with 3 plant-based proteins, as well as a superfood blend that includes Australian natives.

4. Prevention is always better than cure

Had I known when I was younger that the 'naturally lightened' hair I got in summer was in fact the melatonin (colour) of my hair being sizzled by UV damage, I never would have put my strands through that.

Always protect yourself from the elements; UV is an obvious one, but consideration to drying winter winds and artificial heating is important too.

Consider heat tools and styling here too - are you ensuring you're hydrating your scalp and strands in line with these?

  • Hydrating heat protectant: The Christophe Robin Anti-frizz Rescue Milk, is an ideal pre-styling step for hair that is thick, long and prone to frizz. It’s hydrating, smoothing and an excellent heat protectant, necessary for those who want to protect their hair from heat damage. It uses Aloe Vera and Shea Butter to moisturise your locks and Moringa Extract to protect from pollution and heat up to 230°. I use this in the lengths and ends of my hair before styling.

  • Protect your hair from environmental factors: I follow my heat protectant with the Christophe Robin Daily Hair Cream. This beautiful hair cream essentially works as a leave-in conditioner, using a range of luscious plant oils to keep it feeling hydrated. It also offers a low level of sun protection to further protect your hair colour. This anti-damage duo keeps my hair nourished and protected before styling.

5. Opt for quality

Navigating beauty and wellness products can be time consuming, so I’ve made a list of a few things I consider when buying beauty:

  • Where products are made. Australia, for instance, has among the most stringent regulatory systems in the world meaning meticulous attention to detail.

  • The ingredients and where they appear in the order of ingredients. The order of a product's ingredients is the order of the quantity in which they're included, from highest to lowest. Are the call-out ingredients among the first listed?

  • Why certain ingredients are in there. Are they fillers, preservatives, sweeteners? The more of this sort of ingredient in a product, the less room for active ingredients.

  • If you're looking into ingestible supplements, have a look at Recommended Daily Intakes (RDIs) of ingredients to ensure you're not exceeding them.

  • Consider your unique needs and if products cater to these.

6. Invest in high quality tools (and the right ones for you)

When it comes to styling your hair, it’s important to consider the technology you are using, as well as other hardware and products. Based on your goals, hair condition and hair type, these will change.

However, a high quality tool will serve your hair well and potentially decrease the level of damage often caused by heat styling.

  • The right tool for a big, bouncy blow wave: I only blow dry my hair about twice a week, but when I do I use the Dyson Supersonic Black Nickel. The Dyson offers supreme drying time and maintains heat at the optimal temperature for your hair to minimise damage. It’s comfortable to use, designed for quiet and has a range of speed and heat settings. Talk about advances in technology.

7. Daily tweaks

There is a range of other daily tweaks you can incorporate to help promote hair growth and overall health, but for now, I'll leave you with just one:

  • Change how you tie your hair up: Know that the tighter your upstyle, the increased the pulling at the root and possible stretching and breakage of the strand. For the ongoing health of your hair, consider reducing tight upstyles, opting for a looser tie, always with a snag-free elastic, scrunchie or bobble. We suggest these satin scrunchies from Kitsch- stylish and practical.
