A serum is a lightweight, concentrated step that goes on after cleansing and before moisturiser. Most are built around one or two active ingredients, which is why one skin serum can feel so different from the next. This page is the starting point for face serums across the range, from hydrating formulas to brightening, anti-ageing and breakout-focused options. Adore Beauty is an official stockist of every brand here. Shopping for the eye area instead? Eye serums and gels have their own page.
The quickest way to choose is to start with the one thing you want to change. For tight, dull-looking skin, hydrating and hyaluronic acid serums are a sensible first step. If you want a brighter, glowing look, browse vitamin C, brightening and antioxidant serums, or go straight to vitamin C serums. Niacinamide serums are popular for oily or uneven skin, and pigmentation serums target dark spots. Fine lines are the focus of anti-ageing serums, while anti-acne serums are made for blemish-prone skin.
Dry skin usually does best with a hydrating serum that layers under a richer cream. Sensitive skin is trickier. A calming or soothing serum can be a gentle place to start, but every skin reacts differently, so read the ingredient list and keep the routine simple. Exfoliating serums, which often use acids, are a different kind of product. They are best added slowly and used on the schedule the label gives. If your goal is glowing skin, brightening and hydrating serums are the usual route, and consistent use matters more than piling on products.
Apply a few drops to clean skin, press it in, then follow with moisturiser. In the morning, finish with sunscreen, because some actives can make skin more sensitive to the sun. Introduce one new serum at a time so you can tell what suits you, and patch test first. Strong actives such as retinol need extra care. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a skin condition like eczema or rosacea, check with your GP or pharmacist before adding one. Results vary from person to person, and a serum will not do the same job as a prescription treatment.
