Do you love the idea of a gentle laser that can fade scarring, improve redness, acne and rosacea, and even help with ageing?

Well, same

Or maybe you’re after a skin treatment that can safely be done in your lunch break? One that won't leave you peeling and pink on work video calls?

Then we need to chat about laser genesis.

Keep scrolling for everything you need to know about laser genesis, including why dermal therapists like me use it to manage almost every skin concern.

What Is Laser Genesis?

Laser genesis is honestly one of my favourite laser treatments.

It’s a laser that works by gently heating the upper layer (or dermis) of the skin through thousands of micro-pulses of light.

Laser genesis isn't invasive or painful, and bonus, it can be done on your lunch break.

You can listen to more detail on professional skin treatments in this episode of Dermal Diaries on the Bite-Sized Beauty podcast below…

How Does Laser Genesis Work?

How does laser genesis work to do all these amazing things, you ask?

The heat from the laser stimulates collagen production, can break down scar tissue, and helps to shrink blood vessels and diffuse redness.

The face is the most common area to treat using laser genesis, however, this treatment can also be done on your neck and décolletage (or as my dermal therapist pod co-host James Vivian calls it, your neckolletage).

Laser genesis is a very quick treatment, you'll likely only require a 30-minute appointment.

This will vary from clinic to clinic, and also depends on whether your therapist combines it with any other treatments like skin peels or LED light therapy.

Laser Genesis Benefits.

Laser genesis has many benefits, but it's predominantly loved for the way it reduces the look of redness, veins and scarring.

This is why it's often recommended as a skin treatment for rosacea.

It's also a great laser for managing ageing as the stimulation of collagen production can help smooth skin and minimise the look of fine lines.

You can learn more about laser genesis for treating redness in this YouTube video below…

Have acne-prone skin? Laser genesis can benefit you, too.

The laser is able to deliver enough heat into the skin to help kill acne-causing bacteria and diminish the look of active acne, while simultaneously helping to lighten redness or any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation spots caused by the acne.

Starting to see why dermal therapists are obsessed with laser genesis?

Best of all, though, laser genesis works for all people, all skin types and all skin tones.

This means it's a great laser option for darker complexions where other types of laser treatments may not be suitable.

Laser genesis can be done while breastfeeding, but it's not recommended during pregnancy or for anyone on Roaccutane treatment.

What Does Laser Genesis Feel Like?

Next question… does laser genesis hurt?

This is one of THE most comfortable laser treatments you will ever have. It's not painful and no numbing cream is required.

As you can see in this video of Beauty IQ Uncensored co-host Joanna having her favourite James Vivian laser genesis treatment, it's actually quite relaxing.

At times, the laser might feel a tiny bit prickly as it passes over the skin, perhaps in areas where the skin is a little thinner (e.g. on your forehead).

But generally, it feels like warm raindrops on your face. You could even fall asleep.

Side note, I do want to say that it's completely natural and normal to be a little worried before any laser or skin treatment, especially if you've never had one before!

Your clinician will hold your hand and look after you. Promise!

Laser Genesis Before and After.

THIS is the power of laser genesis. Along with the right at-home skin care, of course.

As you can see, my client here saw laser genesis before and after results, including reduced appearance of redness, as well as refined skin texture.

How Long Does It Take To See Laser Genesis Results?

Results will always vary depending on the individual and their concerns. However, many people start to notice a difference after one or two treatments.

Generally, I recommend around six treatments every four weeks to begin with.

Maintenance sessions every few months are often recommended to maintain results.

It’s also handy to know results with laser genesis are accumulative, and visible improvements will always come after a set of treatments.

Because - say it with me - there is No Quick Fix when it comes to skin health.

Laser Genesis Downtime and After Care.

Post-laser genesis, you will have very little downtime, unless you have coupled this treatment with something else.

Most people will just end up with a slightly red/flushed-looking face, which is very normal and tends to subside quite quickly.

The most important after care instructions are avoiding sun exposure and being diligent with your sunscreen post-treatment.

Your clinician will also advise to avoid activities that cause excess heat and sweating like exercise or a sauna session. Plus, they'll share the best products to use post-treatment

One final note on laser genesis: it can be seriously addictive...

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
