I Have Dehydrated Combination Skin & This Moisturiser Gave Me My Glow Back

Fun fact: Hydrated skin = healthy, glowing skin.

Dehydration is a super common skin concern and something I always see in clinic. It can also present in a number of ways.

You know how sometimes your skin breaks out while feeling dry and rough and looking dull, all at the same time?

Well, that can be linked to dehydration.

Plus, every skin type can be prone to dehydration, including oily skin types and my own skin type: combination skin.

While our skin can go through random bouts of dullness, ensuring your skin is properly hydrated will help fight that and in turn, banish dehydrated skin.

My combination skin was looking and feeling a bit 'meh' recently... until I found a new moisturiser that literally gave me my glow back!

What Is Dehydrated Skin?

Dehydrated skin basically means your skin is lacking water.

It's a temporary skin condition rather than a genetic skin type (e.g. dry skin is a skin type), and often happens when you are overusing actives or using the wrong skincare.

Seasonal changes, your diet/lifestyle choices can affect it as well. Essentially, anything that can deplete your skin’s water content.

What Does Dehydrated Skin Look Like?

Dehydration is actually a factor in a lot of skin concerns.

If you have dehydrated skin, you may experience:

• Skin that looks dull and/or fatigued.

• Skin that feels rough, textured or flaky.

• An increase in breakouts - yes, we often associate breakouts with oily skin, but if you are continuously dehydrated, then that can be a contributing factor to your breakouts as well. 

• Fine lines become more pronounced.

Many of the above are preventable with proper hydration.

Plus, adequate hydration will also help the overall look and feel of your skin, which will make your makeup sit better too.

As I mentioned before, your skin will always ebb and flow.

Dehydration happens to my skin a lot, so don’t freak out and think you need to overhaul your entire skincare routine.

Here are some dehydrated skin tips:

• Put a little hold on some of your active skincare serums like vitamin A/retinol and/or exfoliants.

• Ensure you're using cleansers and moisturisers for your skin type in case you're accidentally stripping your skin.

• Look for moisturisers that contain humectant or water-loving ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid.

What Is the Cosmedix Skin Thirst Cream?

Cosmedix Skin Thirst Moisturising Hyaluronic Acid Cream 60ml is a gel-to-cream moisturiser suitable for use both AM and PM.

For a juicy, hydrating moisturiser, it has a surprisingly semi-matte finish.

This makes it great for dehydrated oily and combo skin types, or anyone who wants the extra hydration, but not a glossy or glowy finish.

Here are some other key things to know:

• Contains sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of hyaluronic acid, which is renowned for helping the skin hold onto moisture and boost hydration. 

• The formula also adds witch hazel, a mild astringent to balance the look of skin, and lecithin, a conditioning, plant-based extract to help restore hydration. 

• Mattifying finish blurs the appearance of fine lines and pores under makeup.

My Cosmedix Hyaluronic Acid Cream Review.

As a long-time lover of anything by Cosmedix, I was very excited when this moisturiser came out.

Especially since it's called ‘skin thirst’ in a bottle.

This moisturiser is a very easy product to apply. It slots into your skincare routine like any cream, after cleansing and applying any serums.

I touched on this before, but the texture is quite surprising for a super hydrating moisturiser.

This is what it looks like on my skin! It dries down completely and you can hardly see it.

It starts as a light gel, but once you rub it in, it sinks into the skin and turns into a velvety, demi-matte cream that feels super hydrating.

It’s very lightweight, has almost no fragrance, and doesn't feel heavy or greasy at all.

This makes it a great option for any males who don’t want their skin care to make them look greasy or shiny.

If you do like a dewy or glowy finish for under makeup, I'd suggest adding an illuminating primer or a dewy finish sunscreen over the top.
