A Makeup Artist's Advice On How To Get Glowy, Dewy Skin

The key to achieving a lit-from-within makeup look is a skincare routine you can use every day that will help give you truly glowing skin.

To help you nail the best skin care prep steps we’ve asked Makeup Artist Amelia Singson to share her dewy skin care routine.

A Makeup Artist's Glowy Skincare Routine

Amelia's Favourite Skincare Products to Make Your Face Glow

Prepare yourself for a truly bright and glowing complexion when trying this routine at home with just 5 key products.

Dewy Skincare Tips:

  • When using the Alpha-H Liquid Gold you can either follow it up bi-weekly with your regular serum and moisturiser or leave it on the skin by itself overnight for a more intense glow.

  • Alternate your products based on the needs of your skin and make sure not to over exfoliate, as this can impair your skin’s barrier.

Our go-to guide to making your face glow naturally:

Step 1: Start with clean, freshly misted skin

Step 1: Start with clean, freshly misted skin

Start your routine by cleansing with a gentle cleanser like the asap gentle cleansing gel and follow with a fresh mist like the KORA Organics - Balancing Rose Mist.

Step 2: Exfoliating treatment

Step 2: Exfoliating treatment

The next step for glowing skin is exfoliation. Apply several drops of the Alpha-H Liquid Gold to a cotton pad and then swipe the pad over the skin. This will eat away at the dead skin on the surface of your face revealing a brighter and more even skin tone. Your skin will benefit from using this product just a few nights per week.

Step 3: A hydrating serum

Step 3: A hydrating serum

Enhance radiance with a hydration serum like the Elemental Herbology Cell Nourish Serum. This hydrating formula is packed with Green Tea and Kombucha to protect and nourish the skin. Apply several drops to your complexion and lightly massage it in for glowing results.

Step 4: Another revitalising option

Step 4: Another revitalising option

Another option for a revitalising skin treatment is the Murad Revitalixir Recovery Serum. This serum reduces dehydration and dullness with a combination of caffeine and Hyaluronic acid. This can be used in alternation with the Elemental Herbology Cell Nourish Serum or used together for an extra boost.

Step 5: A nourishing face oil

Step 5: A nourishing face oil

Take several drops of the KORA Organics Noni Glow Face Oil. This face oil has a medium consistency and really helps to nourish and hydrate the skin, while leaving you with a beautiful glow. You can apply 3 drops of this to the skin or mix in with a moisturiser if you don't want to apply it directly. If you have oily skin you can skip this step or try an oil with a lighter consistency.

Step 6: A good moisturizer

Step 6: A good moisturizer

We recommend following up the oil with the Murad Age Reform Nutrient-Charged Water Gel. This moisturizer has a gel like consistency and is packed with Hyaluronic acid and Peptides, which will help restore and strengthen your barrier. The lightweight consistency makes it perfect for all skin types. This moisturiser can be used day or night and works well mixed with an oil.

Step 7: A great sunscreen

Step 7: A great sunscreen

Amelia’s final skincare step is applying the Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF 50+ Luminising Sun Serum. The lightweight consistency of this sunscreen melts right into the skin, as well as a radiant finish. This makes it perfect for creating a glowy base for makeup application.

The Final Result: Perfectly Prepped Skin

The Final Result: Perfectly Prepped Skin

The final result of this routine is skin that is hydrated, protected and perfectly prepped for glowy makeup application.

What products make your face glow?

To begin with, you’re going to want a clear and smooth base. This means exfoliating away dead skin cells with a physical or chemical exfoliant. We recommend trying an AHA like Glycolic acid (which also boosts moisture) for the most radiant results.

Another ingredient we think is essential for glowy skin is Hyaluronic acid. This ingredient is perfect for all skin types including both dry skin and dehydrated oily skin as it attracts and binds moisture in for plump, dewy skin.

*SPF is only one part of sun protection! Always seek shade, and wear sunnies, a hat and protective clothing. Use sufficient sunscreen for all unprotected areas and reapply sunscreen as directed. Frequent re-application or use in accordance with directions is required for effective sun protection. Always read the label. Prolonged high-risk sun exposure should be avoided.
