We’re barely one month into the new year and already stowing away 2023’s minimal makeup to make room for the maximalism of TikTok’s latest glamorous makeup trend (IYKYK).
Drawing inspiration from some of pop culture’s most iconic glam queens – think Carmelo Soprano, Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface, and Sharon Stone in Casino – the trend is all about larger-than-life hair, faux fur coats, oversized sunglasses and dramatic eye makeup.
I’d even go so far as to say the cast of The Real Housewives of New Jersey fits the bill (sorry, you know I had to).
Amassing almost one billion (yes, with a ‘b’) videos to date, the deliberately dishevelled aesthetic (also referred to as 'Indie Sleaze') has undeniably taken the beauty community by storm; a break from the barely-there beauty that dominated most of last year, perhaps.
And while you won’t see me ditching my beloved skin tints anytime soon, this look is fun and frivolous, as makeup should be.
So if you’re keen to try your hand at something new, keep scrolling for a step-by-step tutorial for this full-glam makeup lewk.
My Full Glam Makeup Routine.
The Base.
This makeup look is all about muted tones and a matte base.
Begin with a hydrating skin-prep routine to ensure a flawless, crease-free appearance.
You could opt for a darker-toned palette, but for this minimal makeup lover, this palette worked a treat.
I used a combination of neutral brown shades on my lids:
The second shade down on the far left for the base;
Followed by the second shade down on the right in the crease and along the outer lash line;
Finished with a hint of brown shimmer for added depth.
For sultry eyeliner, I chose the Clinique Quickliner For Eyes, which has a creamy formula and smudge tool on the opposite end that’s ideal for creating a smoked-out look.
Given the nonchalant nature of this look, you don’t have to worry too much about precise application.
A line across your lashes and in your waterline (yes, we’re throwing back to the mid-00s for this look) will suffice.
Just keep a cue tip handy to clean up any fallout and to smudge your liner if you don’t have an appropriate tool handy.
An option here to follow with a second application of concealer for your under-eyes. This helps bring back some lightness that may have been lost and really makes your eyes pop.
