Naturally, as a Hailey Bieber stan, I had to immediately recreate her Mermaidcore makeup.
Keep scrolling for my step-by-step guide using the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmos eyeshadow palette.
Step 1. Start With a Natural Base.
Our mermaid eyes are the star of this show, so for our base, we're going to keep things fairly minimal.
Reach for dewy, illuminating complexion products that enhance your natural beauty and let your skin shine through.
I used the L'Oreal Paris True Match Nude Plumping Tinted Serum and the Huda Beauty GloWish Bright Light Sheer Concealer which are both super hydrating and light in coverage.
If you have oily skin, I’d recommend using products with higher coverage so your makeup stays in place.
I also fluffed my brows up using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze (which you can pick up in this sweet little brow kit here), filling in sparse areas with the Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil.
Step 2. Add Warmth & Dimension.
Next, we’re going to slightly sculpt our face with a bronzer (contour too, if that’s your thing!) and add a flush of colour to our cheeks using the lifted method.
I went in first with the Huda Beauty Cheeky Tint Blush Stick in ‘Coral Cutie’, applying it in an upwards direction toward my temples.
I then followed with the Benefit Hoola Palette in ‘Secret Oasis’ which includes two complementary shades in one, perf for my fair-skinned friends. Don't worry, there are other shades available, too.
Step 3. Build Your Mermaid Eye.
Now, onto the fun part.
For your eyeshadow, you’ll need a handful of brushes: one to shade, one to blend, one for precision and a small, angled brush for liner.
You’ll find all these in the Adore Beauty Tools of the Trade 7-Piece Brush Set (which I used!).
Starting with your eyeshadow shader, apply ‘Space Dust’ all over your lid for the base, blending outward into the crease. This helps to create a blank canvas to work from as well as enhance and hold the shimmery shade.
Next, with your precision eyeshadow brush, apply a small amount of ‘Comet’ to the crease and gently blend upward into the eye socket to add dimension.
Hot tip: keep your eyes open when you apply eyeshadow to your crease. This will help you work with the shape of your lid as you can see what it actually looks like, especially if you have hooded eyes.
Using either your finger or a shading brush, apply ‘Supernova’ all over the lid. With your blending brush, gently blend it outward to frame the eye.
You may find you need to apply a couple of layers of shimmer to build up the pigment.
Step 4. Add Your Winged Eyeliner.
Once you’re happy with your shimmer, we’re going to add in our winged liner.
Using the shade ‘Mars’ and a small angled brush, gently press your liner along the edges of your lash line, working inward till about the middle of your eye.
With the tip of the same brush, you’re then going to gently pull the liner from the outer edge of your eye upward toward the end of your brows to create a flicked effect.
From there, gently pull the brush back inward toward your eye to connect your eyeliner in a semi-triangular shape. Then, connect the winged liner to the outer edges of the bottom lash line.
Using a cue tip, gently sweep underneath your liner to clean up any fallout or uneven lines, and create a smudged look.
You can also use a tiny precision brush to apply concealer under the eyeliner and to the undereye for a more polished look (I did, and used the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Concealer).
Step 5. Final Touches.
To complete the eye look, add mascara. I like to layer the Lancôme Lash Idôle Mascara for volume and Benefit They're Real! Lengthening Mascara for separation, length and my lower lashes.
Then, for our lips, we’re going quite natural and glossy.
I used my favourite combo: the M.A.C Cosmetics Lip Pencil in ‘Stripdown’ and M.A.C Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in ‘Taupe’.
I then followed with the DIOR Dior Addict Lip Maximiser Plumping Gloss in ‘Shimmer Bronze’ to add shine but any lipgloss or glossy balm would do the trick fine.
Lastly, using the shade ‘Orion’ from your Anastasia Beverly Hills palette, gently dust over your cheekbones, cupid’s bow and any other areas you wish to highlight.
And voilà, you're a mermaid! What will the TikTok zeitgeist give us next?
