BIG NEWS: Olaplex's At-Home Treatment Has Arrived and Here Are Our Thoughts

Olaplex No 0 review Olaplex No 0 review

You know that feeling you get when you're brushing your hair and thousands of tiny bits of snapped hair fall all over the floor?

It's my number one beauty-related bug-bear. Even though I know breakage is inevitable - being an artificial blonde who's gone through several years of bleaching and processing - it still upsets me on a daily basis.

To stop hair snapping, you've got two options. The first (obvious and kind of annoying) one is to get regular trims with your hairdresser to keep your hair in top condition at all times.

The second? Stay on top of your at-home hair maintenance to increase the resilience of your hair. When it comes to at-home hair treatments, one brand immediately springs to mind... it's Olaplex.

And whaddayaknow, they've launched a hair treatment. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know about Olaplex No.0, plus my road test and review.

What Is Olaplex?

Olaplex may have only been around for a few years, but it’s garnered a huge cult following.

Their treatments are regularly offered in salons nation-wide, and the brand's at-home products are known to combat breakage, working a treat on damaged or stressed hair.

In fact, the Olaplex Hair Perfector No.3 Home Treatment is one of the best-selling hair products on Adore Beauty and sells out constantly.

You may also be familiar with the other Olaplex take-home products: No. 4 and No. 5 are a shampoo and conditioner duo that extend the life of your Olaplex treatment, No. 6 is a Bond Smoother that works as a leave-in cream, and No. 7 is an oil that strengthens and nourishes.

Oh, and if you’re wondering where on earth No. 1 and No. 2 went, they’re the in-salon treatments we really, really, REALLY recommend you try.

Aside from its chic, minimalist packaging, Olaplex's unique selling point is the technology found in its formulas. Each product aims to repair broken bonds, increase strength, restore elasticity and protect your hair follicles from further damage.

What Is Olaplex No. 0?

Olaplex No.0 Intense Bond Building Treatment is the newest launch from the brand.

The intense at-home Olaplex treatment actually came out in the UK and US last year, but it’s finally landed here in Australia to save your dry, damaged hair.

It’s a serious game-changer; the watery liquid mimics the strengthening powers of an in-salon treatment and is specifically designed to be used alongside Olaplex No. 3 to make both products work even harder.

So, what does Olpalex No. 0 do and how does it work?

  • It's a priming treatment for use on dry hair before Olaplex No.3 for even better results.

  • Best for damaged, over-processed, dry or otherwise compromised hair.

  • Helps prepare hair for bond rebuilding and maximises the efficacy of Olaplex No.3.

  • Restores and strengthens damaged hair.

  • Each bottle contains four to six uses depending on hair length and thickness.

  • It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and suits all hair types and textures.

Olaplex No. 0 review.

Quite honestly, I couldn’t wait to give this a go. I started by sectioning my dirty hair into four sections before saturating each strand with Olaplex 0. Heads up, there is a faint chemical smell (that's the product doing its job), but it wasn't offensive and went away almost immediately.

This step took the most time out of the whole process as my hair is quite long and reaches halfway down my back, and the fine nozzle on the squeezy bottle was SO tiny. If you have fine and/or short hair, this step wouldn't take as long.

The tiny nozzle does help with precision, and to be fair, it stopped me from wasting any precious product - I can assure you, I didn’t waste a drop in the sink or on my bathroom floor! I used about a fifth of the bottle to coat the lower two thirds of my hair.

You’re meant to leave Olaplex No.0 in your hair for 10 minutes, however I accidentally left it in for 20 minutes as I fell into a TikTok hole - oops! After this time, my hair was dry, just slightly crunchy from the residue the product left behind.

Next, I took a small dollop of Olaplex No.3 and coated the same parts of my hair. Hot tip: Less is more when using a protein hair treatment like Olaplex 3, using more won't make your hair feel softer.

I left this step in my hair for 10 minutes before hopping in the shower and washing my hair with my regular shampoo and conditioner, but you can use the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, too.

The result? Swishy, soft, salon-worthy hair.

My Olaplex Before and After.

I can’t say much about how this product improves manageability as my hair is straight and I don’t usually have any issues with getting knots out of my hair.

That said, I was most amazed when I dried my hair. My hair was shiny, smooth and unbelievably soft. It felt like virgin hair, which it's most definitely not.

My favourite part of all? My hair looked less unruly and flyaways were minimised. I’ve got my fingers crossed my hair continues to look and feel this way for a few more washes to come.

Olaplex No 0 before and after Olaplex No 0 before and after

Although Olaplex 0 and Olaplex 3 aren’t as intense as the professional in-salon treatments, using this combo together was almost as good.

Olaplex 0 was pretty straightforward to apply... I just need to make sure I have enough time to complete all the steps and wash my hair and dry it properly. It's a Sunday afternoon kind of treatment you'd pop in before your 'do-everything' shower.

My final Olaplex 0 verdict? It’s a no-brainer for those with damaged hair.
