You’ve probably heard a lot about parabens and sulfates by now. They’re the beauty buzzwords that every expert brings up when they’re telling us what not to use on our skin.

While once they featured in all your favourite skincare, beauty, and haircare products, now they’re (almost) a dirty word that no one dares mention.

Parabens are chemicals that have been preventing bacteria from forming in your favourite products since the 1950s. They help preserve deodorants, shampoos, conditioners, body washes, and more.

Sulfates have also been around for ages. These effective cleansing agents can be found in shampoo, toothpaste, body wash, and more.

So, why are parabens and sulfates suddenly so bad? And why should we all be switching to paraben and sulfate free body wash?

Though nothing has been definitively proven, some people tend to stray away from them because of some of the ways they are thought to effect your hormones and your body.

OK, so you might not necessarily buy into that, but there’s nothing at all wrong with taking a more holistic, less harmful approach to beauty in 2023, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

That's why we’ve pulled together our favourite paraben and sulfate free body washes for you to try and love...

Psst, These Are Our Top Paraben and Sulfate Free Body Washes...

What Is a Sulfate Free Body Wash?

Put simply, a sulfate free body wash is a formula that doesn’t include any harsh sulfates, such as SLS.

While there’s no denying the cleaning effects of sulfates, more and more studies are showing that they can dry your skin out and cause you lasting damage.

The best sulfate free body wash will cleanse your skin without causing irritation. Without sulfates, your body wash will keep the skin pH balanced, which in turn lowers the risk of lasting acne and blemishes.

Products with harsh sulfates could also have a negative effect on the environment. Every time you wash in water, the sulfates deposit into the environment.

Of course, not all sulfates are bad for the earth, but it’s better not to take the risk, right?

What Is a Soap Free Body Wash?

A soap free body wash is exactly what it says on the tin: it’s a body wash that doesn’t contain any soap. When it comes to our bodies, especially as we get older, it’s best to take the most caring approach possible.

While soap isn’t a bad thing, it can be a little harsh on your skin, stripping natural oils and drying you out. A sulfate free bar soap or a soap free soap is a more conscious route to take, especially if you have sensitive skin.

With a more nourishing cleanser, the skin will feel cleaner, softer, and better hydrated after every use. There are a lot of natural soap free body washes out there that are kind to your skin.

There are plenty of reasons to pick-up a paraben free, sulfate free body wash formula. A more natural, plant-based approach could be better for your skin and the environment, so why don’t you give one a go today?

Does Soap Free Body Wash Still Kill Germs?

You will still get clean, healthy, germ-free skin if you use a soap free wash or a soap free body cleanser. A traditional soap will wash away harmful bacteria, but it may also mess with your skin’s pH balance.

This means vital oils will be stripped away, which could leave your skin vulnerable. Instead of using harsh formulas, why not try a soap free body wash bar or a hypoallergenic fragrance free soap?

What Does Soap Free Mean?

‘Soap free’ means that it’s probably more suitable for sensitive skin, especially if you suffer from specific conditions like eczema or psoriasis.

Traditional soap tends to contain harsh chemicals. ‘Soap free’ doesn’t always mean ‘chemical free’ though; a non-soap cleanser is just created using synthetic chemicals, which can be less harmful.

What Are the Benefits of Sulfate Free and Paraben Free?

Using a soap or a body wash without sulfates or parabens means your skin will stay more protected and supple.

You can also start to introduce more natural ingredients into your routine, which tend to be kinder to skin.

You’ll still be able to lather up with a soap free body wash, and your skin will feel just as fresh and clean.

So, if you’re ready to take the plunge and try out some sulfate free, paraben free body washes, we’ve picked the ones that we think you’ll adore.
