The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum

The "chill pill" my skin needed is the best way to introduce The Ordinary’s new Soothing and Barrier Support Serum.

There’s a reason this pink serum goodness has flooded social media and amassed over 17 million views on TikTok alone.

So when I was given the opportunity to road-test The Ordinary pink barrier serum before its official release, I embraced it.

Seeing all the Skinfluencers on my feed raving about it, I wanted to try it on my own often-temperamental and impaired barrier.

I've had a few weeks to trial it, so I can give you Adore Beauty readers my honest thoughts.

Did The Ordinary barrier support serum keep its word and deliver on its big promise to help recover and repair the skin barrier in two hours, whilst providing all-day hydration?

Cue my easily irritated and blemish-prone skin to volunteer!

Read on for my honest thoughts as well as my The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum review.

What Is The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum?

Looking for an affordable serum to hydrate and heal your skin without irritation?

The Ordinary’s Soothing Barrier Support Serum could be your ‘Pink Panther’ (read: your new pink skincare hero).

It’s suited to all skin types; sensitive skin included (rejoice!) and this multi-active emulsion promises to:

  • Instantly soothe uncomfortable, irritated skin.

  • Immediately boost skin hydration by 86%.

  • Reinforce the skin barrier in 2 hours, whilst providing all-day hydration.

  • Improve and smooth the appearance of uneven skin texture.

  • Reduce hyperpigmentation through ginger root extract’s anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Reduce the appearance of redness.

This skin barrier serum is also powered by 8 key technologies:

Soothing Complex: Swerves the feeling of tightness that goes hand in hand with dry skin.

Plant-derived Ceramides: Replenish depleted sphingolipids and phospholipids; through topical delivery to banish dryness and lock in moisture.

Sugar-based hydrators: Support the skin barrier for lasting hydration.

3 Gallic Acid Derivatives: Assist in soothing the skin and reducing redness without irritation.

Vitamin B12: Naturally gives this serum its Barbie pink Pantone colour and more importantly, is responsible for reducing dryness and the appearance of redness.

2% Niacinamide: Supports the skin components responsible for hydration production.

Bisabolol: Reduces the appearance of irritated skin and redness by increasing the skin’s hydration.

Centella Asiatica Phytotechnologies (Gotu Kola): Protects against external stressors and irritants.

My The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum Review:

The Ordinary Pink serum review The Ordinary Pink serum review

Like a calming and restoring moisturiser to angry skin, this serum cooled, instantaneously absorbed and soothed my skin while also leaving it feeling plump and looking dewy.

The pink pearly formula felt like a calming blanket for the skin; you know it’s there and you want it to be.

And for my fellow conscious consumers - great news!

No moral conundrums here as this product is cruelty-free and vegan; with no alcohol, silicone or gluten on the formula menu.

How to Use the Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum? I enjoyed applying this serum day and night and it twas’ love at first sight.

The Ordinary’s polished and functional packaging is immaculate and I enjoy this even more knowing the price point is not exorbitant as we could all do with some extra coffee change these days.

I was sceptical that the bright, pink colour was an unnecessary novelty and was pleased to learn it was a plus point of the formula’s B12 ingredient.

My skin slurped up the hydrating pink formula and began to heal with the same haste.

If your skin is experiencing these issues, it will love it too:

Anyone with blemish-prone skin will know and if you don’t, now you do; that stress is a trigger to causing breakouts.

Ironically knowing this stresses me out, as does trying new skincare products that could exacerbate the flare-ups.

Thankfully the almost instant soothing my skin felt after applying this serum took away the “will or won’t this aggravate my skin” turmoil that comes with the experience of trying new products, especially actives.

The anti-inflammatory and hyperpigmentation-reducing properties of one of the formula’s key ingredients; ginger root extract, were indispensable when battling my hormonal and retinol-induced breakouts.

After a few uses I really started to notice that my skin was hydrated and rid of redness; rejoice!

My journey back to healthy, glowing skin is ongoing and incorporating this serum into my routine was the re-fuel my skin needed and now I’m cruising down the highway to ‘great’ skin.

Texture-wise every day throws a new hurdle and overall I’ve seen changes for the better.

It’s always daunting trialling new actives, especially with blemish-prone skin and for this, I can vouch.

Applying The Ordinary’s Soothing Barrier Support Serum felt like I was donning my armour before exposing it to the elements that life incurs, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Final Thoughts...

My skin is now far from parched, courtesy of The Ordinary’s Soothing Barrier Support Serum.

I can happily report it delivered on its promise to reinforce my skin barrier (if you're looking for affordable products for a damaged skin barrier, add this to cart) and improve the texture and appearance of my temperamental skin.

After finishing my first bottle of this pink perfection all signs point to my impaired skin barrier being well and truly in its healing era and I’ll be repurchasing this pink panther.

I encourage everyone to have this bargain, barrier support serum serum on hand as an insurance policy for when you’ve gone a little, or a lot rouge with actives and aggravated your skin.

One of best skin barrier repair products under $50, The Ordinary’s Barrier Support Serum is in my opinion a no-brainer for anyone who wants hydrated, and happy skin or wants to address skin redness.

For those like me battling sensitive, temperamental, blemish-prone skin or the likes, I highly support you incorporating this soothing serum into your skincare routine.

Pink isn’t just for Wednesdays; with The Ordinary’s Soothing and Barrier Support Serum, why wouldn’t you opt for hydrated skin every day of the week?
