Why do I need to use a Cleanser?

It’s important to begin and end your day with a quality cleanser. If you’re questioning whether you need to use a cleanser, the answer is always YES. Regardless of your age, skin type or gender, cleansing is the first essential step of any good skincare routine, to ensure you are removing build-up of oil and dirt, while hydrating and nourishing your skin. Without a clean base to work with, you won't reap the full benefits of any of your subsequent products. It is critical to remove excess oils, makeup and dirt from skin, revealing a clean, fresh base, before treating skin to serums, treatments and moisturisers. It's worth noting that using a proper cleanser will leave skin feeling softer, smoother and ready for more products. A great cleanser shouldn't leave you feeling tight or dry - and this is often a sign that you cleanser may be too stripping for your skin type. Are there different types of Cleansers?

Here at Adore Beauty, we stock a wide variety of cleansers, so you can combat dry skin, oily skin, sensitive skin, and acne-prone skin. From micellar waters; clay cleansers, oil cleansers, foaming cleansers, balm cleansers, and cream cleansers; to cleansing cloths, wipes, and devices, we have everything you need to ensure your cleansing needs are covered.

For those with oily, combination or acne-prone skin - aim for a cleanser that will effectively remove all excess sebum, and potentially even treat that excess sebum at the source. Cleansers with a gel or foaming texture are perfect for those with oily or combination skin, and if you're concerned with oil production, look for cleansers that contain BHAs or Salicylic Acid to help clear away oil and grease.

Those with dry skin may prefer a milk, balm or oil cleanser - as these will help to rehydrate the skin while also effectively cleansing it. As a bonus, these sort of cleansers are perfect for removing makeup - making your cleansing routine that little bit easier. Look for cleansers that contain ceramides, glycerin, plant oils or squalane as these will help to moisturiser as they cleanse. These types of cleansers and ingredients are also great for those with sensitive or mature skin, as they will nourish and cocoon the skin.

Strong skin

the string scent of some of aesop's products makes me avoid using them. The parsley seed range is quite strong, however i do find this cleaner nice to use and effective, but the smell puts me off.

Not as good as I expected

After battling with deep cystic breakouts for a few years I decided I need to move from a mid range cleanser to something more expensive so tried this. While I think it generally maintained my skin and kept it relatively clear, it wasn't life changing and I still occasionally got deep breakouts. I decided to try something with glycolic acid instead and have actually had far better results with Pix...

Light and fresh

I'm not usually one to use a foaming cleanser, but this one intrigued me. I do get some redness on my cheeks and nose, and this does help to calm it. It doesn't necessarily reduce the redness, but it certainly doesn't make it worse like some cleansers do. It's lovely and light and despite being a foam, it's quite hydrating and my skin doesn't feel tight after I use it. Travel size is great to test...
