Works for me as a root lift but not a dry shampoo
The product is very hard in the container but don't be perturbed by that; the second it warms in your fingers it transforms into an oil-like consistency.
The first time I used it, I took a very small amount, rubbed it between my fingers and then massaged it into my dry roots and scalp. And....I hated it! It felt heavy, like I had a lot of product in my hair and my hair didn't look any cleaner. I played around more but I just made it worse. It didn't work for me as a dry shampoo - potentially because my hair is so fine.
I put it aside for a couple of months and didn't touch it after that until, one day, I put a little in as a root lifter on damp hair. I took the tiniest amount, rubbed it between my fingers and massaged it into my scalp and roots, particularly around the crown. After blow drying my hair upside down, I was in love! It is the most effective root lift product I've ever used and the best part is you can focus it to exactly where you need it. It adds texture, control and a huge amount of lift. But don't use too much - I use the teeniest, half-a-pinkie-finger nail's worth. If I'm rubbing it in and notice my damp hair feeling like it's getting dry at the roots, that's my cue to stop adding product.
I've also found that if I take a minute bit of it (half of what I use on the roots) and rub it through the ends of my dry hair, I can give it a matte texture - very grungy.
I've now been using it for months this way and I've made only a small dent in the tub - very cool.
Highly recommended for folks with fine hair who need lift, body and texture at the roots. Great in conjunction with a volumizing mousse or spray that gives you horizontal volume. Takes a little practice but so worth it.
