Three Products That Permanently Live in My Shower

I must admit, my shower is quite a fun place.

As you can probably imagine, it’s a revolving door of the latest and greatest body care and hair care products including masks, body washes, scalp scrubs and at least a handful of half-empty shampoo bottles.

When a new player gets inducted into the shower, my partner receives instructions on whether he’s allowed to use the said product and how to use it (I won’t go into why we have to have this discussion, but let’s just say he’s generous when he pours things out of the bottle).

Cleansers come and go, as do shampoos and conditioners and body washes, and yet despite the revolving door and the anticipation of trying a new product, there are three staples in my shower that have stood the test of time – one in particular for over a DECADE.

The Shower Oil I Keep Repurchasing .

I’m known to rave about this product a lot (like, almost too much) but ICYMI, the shower oil I’m referring to is none other than the L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil.

One unit of this product sells every 15 seconds worldwide – the hype is absolutely real. But why has it become a staple in my shower, you ask?

  • It has a fragrance you won’t easily forget – imagine a warm, inviting, vanilla-almond scent that’s not sickly sweet, but the soft sillage lasts on your body after your shower.

  • It quickly lathers up from an oil to a milky body wash when mixed with water, and a little bit goes a long way so it’s actually good value for money in my opinion.

  • It contains moisturising ingredients like sweet almond oil, grape seed oil and other nourishing lipids to support dry, flaky (particularly in winter) skin.

  • We know I love a big boy product – this one comes in a 500ml pump bottle which is ideal if multiple people are sharing it.

Jo’s tip: if you have a bath at home, I love to pour some of this into my bath (even though I also use the Milky Bath), I find this helps my skin to feel less dehydrated after I’ve been soaking in scorching temperatures.

Something I Don’t Have to Repurchase…

Flaky scalp friends unite, I’ve got a product for you and it’s under 20 bucks!

I’ve had the STRAAND Scalp Brush in my shower for over six months, and I use it every second wash along with one of two scalp scrubs I have on rotation because it makes working the product into my hair so much easier.

  • This scalp brush not only helps to stimulate circulation on the scalp (hello, hair growth!) but also gently physically exfoliates the scalp to reduce flakiness .

  • It’s made from premium non-toxic silicone which also has antimicrobial properties, so it can safely live in your shower .

  • You can use it simply to massage your scalp, work scrubs and detox shampoos into the scalp, or you can use it dry to help scalp serums and treatments penetrate better.

Jo’s tip: if you have a wire shower caddy like me, the handle of this brush fits perfectly between the rungs of the caddy if you hook it in from underneath, saving some extra space for more products ;)

The Cleanser I’ve Used for Over a Decade.

asap was the first skincare brand I was introduced to (outside of the supermarket stuff) all the way back in 2012, and I’ve consistently used and recommended the asap gentle cleansing gel since.

Occasionally I’ll dabble in others just for a change, but every time I crack open a fresh bottle, I’m reminded why it’s my lifelong favourite.

  • It’s ideal as your second cleanser after a balm or oil cleanser, as it’ll effectively remove any leftover makeup, excess oil, dirt and debris from the skin without making it feel stripped .

  • It contains calming and hydrating ingredients like aloe vera, white tea and glycerin, making it an ideal cleansing for all skin types and concerns .

  • It’s soap-free and you only need a blueberry-sized amount to cover the whole face so the 200ml bottle should last you anywhere between 4-6 months .

Jo’s tip: if you use a physical exfoliant, you can mix a small amount with this cleanser to make it less abrasive and gentler on the skin .

Final Thoughts.

I’ll be sure to let you know if any other products stand the test of time in my shower.

Actually, come to think of it, there are two more I could’ve mentioned in this article.

Oh well, I’ll just have to come back and write another entire article about them.
