I Adore the OG Brow Freeze From ABH, but How Does the New Gel Version Hold Up?

If there’s something Anastasia Beverly Hills knows how to do, it’s create a cult product..

From Dipbrow to the Modern Renaissance palette, they’ve mastered the art of making products everyone has to have.

The Brow Freeze Wax is no different in its cult status - and I can say from personal experience, as a pot of the stuff was in my very first staff order when I started working at Adore in 2021.

I simply had to get my hands on it ASAP.

Fast forward a few years, and the brains at Anastasia Beverly Hills have whipped up a new version of the Brow Freeze product, this time in a hybrid wax-gel version.

As someone who adores the OG wax, I’m here to road-test the new format and see how the new version holds up.

I have very high hopes and spoiler alert, a certain product passed with flying colours.

But I get ahead of myself.

What Is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel?

What: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel

This product is a clear gel-wax hybrid that comes in a gorgeous easy-to-take-anywhere tube.

Inspired by the OG solid wax, this formula is meant to provide the same long-lasting hold in an easy-to-use format.

The product has no colour, so it’s suitable for all hair shades.

It also promises to dry down quickly with no flakiness - the formula itself includes glycerin which gives a hydrated effect.

The brush has three sides, one to lift and separate (long bristles), one to shape (shorter bristles) and another to lock the shape in (flat side).

This sounds intimidating but I promise, it’s honestly my favourite thing about the product.

But more on that later.

First up, I should give some context about my experience with the OG product.

Receipts, proof, timelines, screenshots, etc.

My fave way of using the OG wax is to load up the ABH Brow Freeze applicator with the product, brush it back and forth through my eyebrows, and then shape my brows up and out.

I would always be mindful of not using the wax on top of my base products, as I found it would pick up the pigment.

Here are some examples of me using the OG Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Wax, both with and without makeup.

Now for my thoughts on this buzzy new product. Where to begin?

My plan for the new wax-gel hybrid was to use it the same way but with a lighter hand, as the three-sided brush could do a lot of the heavy lifting for me.

On first impression, the soft matte tube is super cute and bigger than I was expecting.

The brush, with its three distinct sides, was perhaps the most exciting thing, with the goopy texture of the gel-wax hybrid next up on my ‘wow’ list.

It was super easy to use and apply - however, the three-sided brush does require you to maneuver your grip from step to step to ensure you’re getting the most from the product.

Now for the verdict you’ve all been waiting for. It made my brows look great.

I’ve got fairly natural brows - both in shape and in volume, and the gel-wax hybrid allowed me to achieve the look I loved from the OG wax.

It did require some maneuvering with the brush, however, I actually really enjoyed the control it allowed me to have - as the three sides allowed me to get the exact shape and style I was after regardless of whether it was sleek and laminated or a more natural, fluffy look.

I will say I do have fairly manageable brows - so as a flag, those with super thick, unruly, bushy brows may benefit from the OG wax formula as I did find that the wax had more staying power on the basis of the formula itself.

But with that being said, I did accidentally fall asleep for an afternoon nap with my eyebrows done using the new wax-gel hybrid, and when I woke up my brows were still in place.

I was disoriented, but my brows certainly weren’t. Big slay.

Sadaf’s Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel Review.

Our Senior Beauty Editor Sadaf also tried the new ABH Brow Freeze Gel. She shared her mini review with me below.

"I loved this brow gel SO much that I pretty much coerced Maddy into adding my mini review in her article.

I truly didn't think anything could rival the current brow setter I’m using and I still use that daily, but for days I’m going out or want a bit more oomph, this it the one I’ll be reaching for.

Firstly, as someone with paper thin arches, any product that can create the illusion of thicker brows is an instant add-to-cart.

This did just that while also making them look more fluffy and textured.

I sweeped the gel from the middle part of the applicator across my brows first, brushed up with the sides then went over again with my fingers, lightly pressing them upwards and down on my skin to set in place.

FRIENDS, THEY DID NOT BUDGE ALL DAY.

In fact, I took a car selfie at the end of the day as visual proof. The laminated look was still in place at 7PM!

The Brow Freeze gel also stays true to its "no crunch" promise; also no eye dandruff (read: product residue) which is also a win.

I owe my thanks to ABH because for $46, I can safely say this is now a must-have makeup product for me. Seriously. It's that good."

Final Verdict.

With all of that considered, I definitely enjoyed using the new gel version of Brow Freeze - the tube will now live on in my handbag for brow touch-ups throughout the day.

If you’ve ever wanted to give the laminated look a go, or if you’re just looking for a brow routine that takes a little less time than whipping out the OG wax, this gel is for you.
