Have a lip colour you love but a crusty, chapped lip texture that you hate? We’ve got some pro tips for keeping lips hydrated whilst flaunting a flawless lip look!
Lipstick wearers know that, unfortunately, some of the best long-wear formulas and heavily pigmented shades can be incredibly drying. Have a lip colour you love but a crusty, chapped lip texture that you hate? We’ve got some pro tips for keeping lips hydrated whilst flaunting a flawless lip look!
Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate
Of course, you don’t want to over-exfoliate, but removing dead, chapped skin from the lips is vital to ensuring your hydrating balms can penetrate properly. Smooth lip skin also enables lipstick to set properly for all-day wear.
Simply slapping on a lip balm over chapped skin isn’t enough. If the product can’t break through the layers of dead skin atop the lips, no hydration will actually reach the healthy tissue. You're just setting yourself up for dry, chapped skin to make an encore appearance.
Hydrate Lips Around the Clock
The best way to ensure your lips won’t dry out throughout the day is to hydrate them with a lip balm before application, during wear, and after removal of your lipstick. If you maintain round-the-clock hydration after a good lip exfoliation, your lips will always be free of dead skin and ready to pout like a champ!
Application of balm before and after lipstick is easy and intuitive, but applying lip balm over lipstick can be tricky. However, balm will extend the life of your lip look. Simply ensure you have a tube of gloss to gently dab on chapped areas before reapplying your lip colour.
A tube is essential. Rubbing or swiping on stick balm or gloss may cause pigment to rub off significantly more than if you simply tap on a lightweight product with your ring finger. Always have some balm on hand to perk up your look before freshening your lipstick, and you’re set for gorgeous, plump, moist lips!
