Each year, Adore Beauty creates an annual Gift Guide for the holiday season to showcase the amazing gift sets we have an offer. Part of this creative process involves a beauty-inspired photo shoot, and we’d love to help you recreate this stunning look which graces the cover of our Gift Guide. Our professional makeup artist Vanessa Walsh, talked us through how she created this look on our three stunning models.
WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE LOOK?
The focus for this look is all about beautiful skin and enhancing the natural beauty of our models. We wanted to create an on-trend, luminous, natural-looking finish, highlighting the most striking features of each individual face. The result we achieved was glowing, dewy, radiant skin.
PREPARING THE SKIN
We started this look with Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex S8 Eye Recovery Complex. This eye cream assists in reducing fine lines and puffiness. It’s light weight and absorbs instantly into the skin, giving an pump of hydration under the eyes.
Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre was applied generously over the face and neck. This multipurpose moisturiser is a cult classic amongst most professional makeup artists. It has a creamy texture and is soothing on the skin, which makes it ideal for preparing the skin for makeup application. Although it’s often considered a ‘rich’ moisturiser, it absorbs quickly into the skin instantly and leaves the skin looking fresh and plump.
Lanolips 101 Ointment is applied to prep the lips, and then again towards the end of the makeup application. Lanolips 101 Ointment is a necessity for everyone – not only is it affordable, but also can be used for keeping cuticles hydrated and soft, assists with healing wounds, it’s baby-friendly and is amazing for hydrating your lips. It’s an office favourite and most of our staff keep a tube on their desk.
Skindinavia Makeup Primer is spritzed over the face, then buffed into the skin using Sigma F15 – Duo Fibre Powder/Blush Brush. Buffing the product into the skin ensure smooth and even coverage of all areas of the face. Skindinavia’s Makeup Priming Spray helps reduce redness and control excess oil production.
BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector is applied under the eyes to instantly brighten the under-eye area and neutralise darkness. Clarins Instant Light Brush-On Perfector was then layered over the top to seamlessly conceal the delicate under-eye area. Both products were applied using the Sigma E25 – Blending Brush.
I used the BECCA Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation on all the models. This is my current favourite foundation, it photographs beautifully and gives the skin a glow from within. It’s light-medium coverage and has a luminous finish. I applied this with my favourite tool, the Model Co Magic Blender Sponge. This cuts application time in half and helps the product to blend seamlessly.
To tame the brows of our models, Benefit Gimme Brow was brushed upwards into the brows, then swept through the tail of the brow. To fill and define any sparse areas, Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil was used on each model in their suitable shade.
BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid (in Moonstone, Opal & Topaz) was pressed into the skin over the high points of the face. BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed, and theBalm Manizer’s were then dusted over the skin using the Sigma E38 – Diffused Crease brush.
To bronze the skin, BECCA’s Lowlight Sculpting Perfector was applied to the hollows of the cheeks, through the temples and forehead with Sigma E25 – Blending Brush. This is a really easy product to blend out and gives the skin warmth and adds a natural-looking shadow.
Benefit are leading the brow and lash game. Of course I used Benefit’s Roller Lash, which is hands down my favourite mascara and I couldn’t live without it. Before applying Roller Lash, I used the TweezerMan Eyelash Curler to help lift the lashes. The wand applicator of Roller Lash is designed to get to the root of the lash, resulting in the eyes looking wide awake.
To create a natural tint, Lanolips 101 Ointment was reapplied to the lips, and dabbed with BECCA Beach Tint in Watermelon and Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Liquid Lipstick in Pink Lover and Lavish Pink.
FINISHING THE LOOK
To lightly set the face, I used the RCMA No Colour Powder on the centre on the face, and I used Sigma F37 Spotlight Duster Highlighter Brush. No Colour Powder is a must for every kit, it has no filler or pigment which means it’s perfect for every skin tone and won’t leave a white mask on your face, like a lot of translucent powders do on darker skin tones.
To ensure this look stayed in place all day, and also to add an extra bit of glow I finished off with a light spritz of the Gerard Cosmetics Green Tea Slay All Day Setting Spray. This product smells so divine.
