Fine, thin, and straight hair often lacks volume and is prone to lying flat. However, with the right methods, tools, and products, you too can achieve bouncy locks that last all day.
Fine, thin, and straight hair often lacks volume and is prone to lying flat. However, with the right methods, tools, and products, you too can achieve bouncy locks that last all day. It's as easy as one, two, three.
1. Washing fine hair
Volumising shampoos work by temporarily swelling the hair cuticles to give the impression of thicker hair. The effects last just until the next wash. We recommend MoroccanOil Extra Volume Shampoo, which contains keratin to strengthen the hair and argan oil to add an extra shine.
Conditioners can often feel too heavy on fine, thin hair. Consider a volumising conditioner such as Christophe Robin Volumising Conditioner. This lightweight formula creates lift and hydrates hair without weighing it down. Only apply conditioner to the lengths of your hair to avoid clogging the scalp.
Volumising products can leave a residue in the hair, leaving it prone to product build-up, so it’s important to use a clarifying shampoo occasionally. Use O&M Original Detox Shampoo every few washes for a deep clean.
If you have thin or fine hair, you may want to experiment with reverse washing. This way, your hair can feel the hydrating benefits of conditioner without becoming weighed down. Additionally, your shampoo will distribute more evenly.
2. Drying thin hair
We always recommend blow-drying your hair, as you can build up volume with a good drying technique. Air-drying usually leaves your hair looking and feeling limp.
Once you've gently combed through your hair, use a volumising mousse to help build body. Try ghd Total Volume Foam, which doubles as a heat protectant. Using a root spray on damp hair can also add lift and texture. We recommend evo Root Canal Base Support Spray.
Achieving a salon-finish blowout on fine, thin, straight hair can seem impossible at first, but be patient and persistent. Keep practising and researching pro techniques. Using a round brush, such as the evo Bruce 28 Natural Boar Bristle Brush, adds bounce to the hair whilst reducing frizz and adding shine.
3. Styling fine, straight hair without heat
If you want to add even more volume and lift at the roots once your hair has dried, lightly tease strands with the evo Tyler Boar Bristle Teasing Brush. Be careful to backcomb gently; otherwise, you'll damage your hair. Use a lightweight hairspray such as Neuma NeuControl Spray to set the finished style in place.
Between washes, you can use special products to keep your hair looking clean and full. Kérastase VIP Volume in Powder adds texture and volume to second- and third-day hair without weighing it down. Christophe Robin Instant Volumising Mist with Rose is particularly good at freshening tresses.
4. How do bloggers get the perfect curl?
