Chemical Vs Physical
Okay, let’s break this down. A physical exfoliant is what you are most likely familiar with. They typically include manually scrubbing the skin and often tend to be more satisfying as we literally feel the scrub removing dead skin cells and assume it's doing a better job. Don’t get me wrong, I loveeee a good physical exfoliant, but regular aggressive scrubbing and unrefined, large granules can cause micro-tears and damage the skin.
A chemical exfoliant dissolves dead skin cells without any manual scrubbing action. The most common being AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids). AHAs help to resurface your skin and assist in improving the signs of ageing, fading pigmentation, and treating acne. In most cases, chemical exfoliants are gentler on the skin as they aren't abrasive, and can have significant long-term benefits on the skin.
