Legit, This Eye Cream Hack Stops Foundation Creasing in My Smile Lines

Buckle up, friend. You’re in for a dose of the weirdest investigative journalism you ever did read...

An investigation into smile lines, foundation, creasing and eye cream. Allow me to explain.

It was around two years ago when I started noticing the way my foundation was creasing in my smile lines - the lines you get from being a joyous human that run from either side of your nose down to the outer corners of your mouth.

Side note: Smile lines are 100 per cent normal and I'm the first to admit mine aren't very hectic at all. Everyone gets them... unless you've never smiled or laughed before, in which case you're... good? But I love a chuckle, so here we are.

Back to my issue. Similarly to how water pools into crevices, the cream and liquid products we use on our faces settle into the fine lines, bumps and uneven texture on our skin. And smile lines.

It's the same deal with foundation, but because it's a pigmented product you can see, I found I could see where my base was setting up camp in my smile lines. Sometimes, foundation settling into fine lines has to do with the quality of your foundation, but more often than not, it's about your skin barrier and structure.

I tried everything to stop my foundation creasing around my mouth and no matter how well I set my makeup, nothing worked. I even ended up asking my friend Sarah to tap me if she saw my makeup creasing when we were out. We basically had a 'crease' hand signal, which is nice, but not sustainable.

So, I started researching to come up with my solution, which brings me to the hack I'm sharing with you today.

In my research, I learnt eye skincare products are designed to plump up lines and seal in moisture around the eye area. What’s interesting is that my smile lines were in need of the same thing.

The only question was... would an eye cream work in the same way if I applied it around my mouth? After 16 months of testing, I'm here writing to you that it definitely does. Hear me out.

Eye products are formulated to help prevent and combat the signs of ageing, or help you age gracefully if that’s what you prefer. The skin under and around our eyes is also some of the hardest on the face to treat because it's the thinnest skin on our bodies.

It's for this reason eye creams and eye serums are formulated with the most nutrient-rich ingredients to assist in elastin and collagen production to combat wrinkles. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

FYI, Jo and Hannah spoke to a dermatologist about whether you need an eye cream in this episode of the Beauty IQ Uncensored podcast, get it in your ears below!

For over a year now, I've been applying eye cream to my smile lines and I've noticed a difference in the appearance of these lines, and how much smoother my makeup sits over them.

My lines aren't gone (you'd need injectables for that), but they seem to have reached an amicable agreement with my foundation and I'm reaping the benefits.

So, how do you incorporate my eye cream smile lines hack into your own skincare routine? It's simple.

What I want you to do is, next time you apply your eye product, take a pea-sized amount of your product (or any leftover from your finger when you inevitably pump out too much) and rub it onto your smile lines or on any other areas of skin around your mouth that might bother you.

And that’s it. Bob's your uncle.
