I'm A Makeup Artist And I'm Obsessed With This Underrated Foundation

Having been a makeup artist for just over 5 years and working on countless faces, there is one reaction that I hear from 90% of my clients and that is “how did you get my skin to look THIS good?!”.

I always smile politely and remark that their skin looks amazing because I have a great canvas to work on (which I always do) BUT there is one product that has ALWAYS got my back when it comes to creating a flawless base. That product is Kryolan's TV Paintstick.

Out of all the foundations I have tried (and trust me when I say I have tried A LOT), this is one of the best stick foundations I have come across, and is the key formula of pretty much every foundation cocktail I have created!

We Get You Love It, But What Makes It So Good?

Professional makeup artists have been using Kryolan's TV Paintstick for years in both photography and TV. It has a HD finish which leaves the skin looking naturally radiant, without needing to apply 500 products. And the best part? Zero flashback!

The thing I love most about TV Paintstick is it’s versatility – not many foundations can scale from a full coverage, long wearing foundation to a light “my skin but better” veil. Whilst Kryolan is often celebrated for being able to provide 90% coverage and supreme longevity, it can also provide coverage as light as a BB cream when mixed with a liquid foundation and applied lightly with a buffing brush.

Along with it’s versatility, Kryolan also has an extensive shade range which can cater to every skin tone, and it won't oxidise, which means the shade you see when you apply it will be the shade you see all day (or night) long. You can wave goodbye to shade-shock when you see yourself in the light of day... or a nightclub bathroom.

Can I use Kryolan TV Paintstick If I Have Oily Skin?

This foundation is suitable for all skin types, however there are a few tips and tricks to ensure that you get the most out of it, depending on your skin type and what kind of coverage you would like. I have created a little cheat sheet below which outlines the perfect recipe for a flawless base depending on your skin type and the look you would like to achieve:

Very dry/dry skin looking for light coverage: Use a hydrating primer and mix TV Paintstick with a dewy liquid foundation for a “my skin but better” type of result.

Very dry/dry skin looking for full coverage: Use a hydrating primer underneath and mix TV Paintstick with a dewy medium-full coverage liquid foundation OR apply Kryolan TV Paintstick on it’s own. Once foundation has been applied, set it with a light setting powder, focusing on areas that the face naturally secretes oil from such as T-zone and chin for a long lasting, skin finish.

Oily Skin looking for light coverage: Use an oil-control/mattifying primer underneath and mix TV stick with a matte liquid foundation for the best result. Lightly powder areas of the face that are more prone to excess shine – including the T-zone, chin and any other areas that you find get oily over time.

Oily Skin looking for full coverage: Use a oil-control/mattifying primer and mix TV Paintstick with a matte full coverage liquid foundation OR apply TV Paintstick on it’s own. Once foundation has been applied, set the whole face with a setting powder.

Normal skin looking for light coverage: Use a hydrating/oil-control primer (depending on whether you would like to look more matte or more dewy) underneath and mix TV Paintstick with a dewy liquid foundation for a “my skin but better” result. Lightly dust setting powder over T-zone & chin.

Normal skin looking for full coverage: Use your preferred primer according to your desired finish underneath and mix TV Paintstick with a dewy/matte medium-full coverage liquid foundation OR apply it directly to the skin. Once the foundation has been applied, set it with a setting powder.

How To Apply Kryolan TV Paintstick:

After trialing a number of methods of applying TV Paintstick I have found that my preferred method is using a buffing brush, like the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush or the M.A.C Cosmetics 196 Foundation Brush. Using a buffing brush allows for a seamless application whilst giving you control over the amount of coverage you would like to achieve.

As I mentioned above, Kryolan TV Paintstick is SUPER versatile. Whilst it’s main purpose is to serve as an amazing full coverage foundation stick, it can also be used as a contour stick or a creamy, high coverage concealer. If you would like to use it as a contour stick, then select a stick that is around two shades darker than your skin tone. If you would like to use it as a concealer, I would recommend selecting one shade lighter than your foundation.

I keep coming back to it

Renbird

I just felt like leaving another review for this foundation after using it for a couple of years. Since purchasing this product, I have also tried a number of other foundations but I keep coming back to this one. It’s so convenient and easy to apply. I use an SPF moisturiser underneath, dab this around my face and bounce with a beauty blender. If I need more coverage anywhere then I just dab again...

Long lasting

I've never used a Kyolan product before, so bought this on a whim. Being fairly pale, I was unsure which colour to get but found it was very easy to alter the shade with powder. I applied this foundation at 3pm and at 1am it was still perfectly in place. I usually get very oily with thick foundations but found this Kryolan stick didn't even get shiny. I would recommend this product but would need ...

Been using for years

Brooke

I have been using this stuff for years I’m talking almost 10 years. I absolutely love it for going out and I have it in 4 different shades to suit my tan level. This has by far the best coverage I’ve ever come across and the smallest amount goes a LONG LONG way. I have oily combination skin and this stuff doesn’t make me breakout. I do feel for myself it’s to heavy to wear every single day. But by...
