Hyaluronic acid retains water deep in the skin and provides unparalleled hydration to the elastic fibres in the dermis (such as collagen and elastin). It is essential in boosting and maintaining skin tonicity and elasticity.
With ageing, the level of natural hyaluronic acid in the skin progressively diminishes and it becomes necessary to replace what has been lost.
Hyaluronic acid performs the following functions:
- acts as a binding protein for the skin’s matrix and the collagen fibres in the connective tissue.
- absorbs water and swells which makes it an excellent hydrating and plumping ingredient for the skin.
- Creates a film on the skin, which prevents dehydration and keeps the skin elastic and soft.
